People will always go with what is more convenient.
I hate driving in congested traffic. Spending an hour on what should be a 15 minute drive then struggling to park isn't convenient.0 -

SUV's appear 'vast' because of their height, which harms no-one. I have a 'vast' city-based SUV (Honda CRV). Should I change it for a saloon (Passat, 3-series, A4 etc) which is longer and so takes up more road space?0 -

In the age of the Internet ignorance is a choice. 'All the climate scientists' is a hopeless lie. I suggest you do some research into the subject and pay particular attention to the recent court case between Dr Michael Mann and Dr Tim Ball - and Dr Ball's court victory.
When you have informed yourself about that, you might like to consider the findings of Prof. Zharkova on the impending solar minimum.
Until there is a verifiable scientific proof of the global warming theory (and there hasn't been one yet) it remains a theory. And that is a precarious basis on which to plan society's future.
Meanwhile, how about showing us that SUVs produce significantly more harm than other vehicles? And no, an article in the Guardian (of all places)doesn't count.
Just for the record, I don't own an SUV and I don't much care for them. On the other hand, I care for hysterical greenies even less.
You are wrong, you will be proved wrong (it’s already happening) but i’m sadly i’m guessing you are of an age where you won’t suffer too many of the consequences.
Maybe that’s the problem. How do we get more people to care about what happens after they die?0 -

Is your point that if you’re not perfect there’s no point trying or caring?
You started pointing the fingers at SUVs like they are a huge problem. SUVs are not the problem. The idea that the car I drive every now and again is causing climate change is ridiculous. It's the produce I buy, the products I use, the internet, emails, mobile phones etc. etc. and, in a very minor way, the fact I drive a car. (but the Prius that bombed past me at 90 on the motorway the other day is doing a lot more damage than me).
The problem is not carrier bags or plastic straws or SUVs. The problem is the global population size and the economic progress that has been made since the industrial revolution. It's international trade, the throw-away society, the desire to have any food we desire at any time of year...
To make a real change, we need to reverse the last 200 years. We need to go back to buying seasonal food from our local grocers and butchers that in-turn was sourced from local farmers. We need to stop buying clothes and gadgets from China. We need to work in our local community and thereby stop commuting. We need to ban all air travel. Ban international movement of goods.
But doing this will totally destroy our economy, decimate jobs, cause a reduction in quality of education, healthcare, industry... the list is endless.
And once we've destroyed our way of life, we'll look and realise there are 7 billion people around the world who haven't bothered and the world is still in trouble.
SUVs are not the problem.0 -
Until public transport goes from where I am to where I want to be when I want to go it will always be inconvenient.
The problem is that you want to go to those places. You cannot move millions of people around the country each day without impacting the environment.
You, me and everyone else needs to get a job to which we can walk/cycle. Which isn't going to happen.0 -

We're humans. Humans are intrinsically selfish and self-serving. It's not going to happen.0 -

It’s not me pointing the finger, it’s scientific data, I just posted it on here.0
