Very concerning figures.
You’d have to be blind not to realise how popular these cars have become in the last few years, but what can be done to get people out of them? They certainly aren’t necessary for most road users I wouldn’t have thought.

2 + 2 = 47 ???
SUV is bigger than a car so must create more CO2?
SUV is heavier than a car so must create more CO2?
SUV aerodynamics are poor so it must create more CO2?
The average mass of new cars rose 10% between 2000 and 2016 so it must be due to all the SUV's?
Nothing to do with all the safety equipment they have to fit into them these days?
What was the weight of a Focus in 2000 compared to the 2016 model, the newer Focus is 20% heavier than the older car.
The newer petrol engined Focus weighs as much as my old diesel engined Mondeo estate.

I tried out the suv version of my small hatchback car and I wasn’t impressed. The ONLY advantage I could see for it was a bigger boot. It didn’t seem particularly more spacious inside the cabin apart from maybe a bit more headroom in the back.
The were lots of disadvantages though and it was pig ugly compared to my sleek 208.0 -

You can prove anything with selective use of statistics.
Since something like 30% of all car sales are classed as SUVs (what the hell is an SUV anyway?) and their % share of an increasing market is increasing, obviously they will be part of any rise.
What they really ought to publish is the CO2 produced by all the petrol consumed vs all the diesel consumed- there is far more petrol consumed globally than diesel, so a no-brainer that more CO2 is going to be produced by cars!I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

You're created a very misleading headline there. The table is NOT about the relative pollution, but is rather about the change in pollution.
As the publication of the source data is only couple of weeks away, it would be better to wait and see the full picture.0 -

From the report "the conventional car market has been showing signs of fatigue, with sales declining in 2018 and 2019, due to slowing economies. Of course, there is a secondary problem, in that China and India are building loads of dirty power stations!!!0
