Appliances, Kitchen and Flooring - Where from?

1. DIY Kitchens - The kitchen isn't huge so don't need something very bespoke, so i guess DIY kitchens might work for me, not sure if they come and take measurement to help you plan a kitchen or whether you need to sort that privately. Do you know who the rep is by any chance, might get in touch ? Ive never used them just aware they have a good rep. I dont think they offer a measuring/design or fitting service part of the reason theyre cheaper than the majoity of others who do offer such services. The other thing you could do it get the design service from another retailer who offers it free and then simply use that design to order your kitchen. Obviously depends on your ethics.
2. No, i will be getting the kitchen and work tops fitted, often for worktops most companies selling offer the fitting service as part of it. Just not sure whether i should be going down the route of Granite or Quartz, main concern is i want it to remain nice and shiny, and not get scratched, so be durable... but also not pay a huge price (if i was able to afford it i'd have gone down the ceramic route). Sorry, assumed you meant wood or laminate where fitting is always seperate. I know B&Q used to refuse selling quartz or granite without it being fitted by them as it cause a nightmare liability wise arguments between fitter, retailer and customer. Just keep an eye out who's going to be liable for what.

You haven't even moved into the place yet. Live there a while, don't rush decisions. If you are spending a reasonable amount of money, you don't want to order and install something in a huge rush a few days after you have moved in and spend years regretting it.
This isn't a race. Its worth taking time over it.0 -
if your living there long term, don't skimp on the appliances either.
Get good quality brands WITH long guarantees. I have a Miele Washing machine with a 10 year warranty, Samsung Fridge with a 5 year warranty for example.
Got them via cashback websites and shop around for the cheapest deals
Kitchen worktops will be based on your budget. Anything from cheap laminate work tops to corian/ Granite"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

On the DIY Kitchen front, did you measure the kitchen up yourself, and design it all on the website yourself, or do they offer any kind of assistance?
I've fitted several kitchens now (with help of a skilled carpenter mate). There is no mystery to them, usually the room layout dictates where things are going to go. By all means take your drawings to Wren/Wickes etc who will knock up a drawing for you.
You'll find the units are in standard "building block" sizes, 300/400/500/600/800/1000mm widths. It's fairly easy to sketch what layouts will work for you.
I wouldn't risk buying a kitchen until I'd lived in the house. You'll need accurate measurements and know where the services are and if you can/need to move them. Venting the extractor is vital for me, I dislike the recirculating ones that don't remove smells/humidity from the kitchen.
I wouldn't choose appliances on how glizty they look either, if it's going to have to last you a while, it's better to stay more traditional. I think the gloss black look will go out of fashion. And I tend to stick with Bosch/Neff & Miele appliances for reasons stated above.
In my last house, I complied a list of appliances, compared online prices then gave the list to a bricks and mortar shop who beat the price by over 10% (about £1,000 on my £10k spend).Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -

Thank you very much for the advice, the issue is, we complete on the 31st October, the kitchen delivery time is 4 weeks as a minimum... on that basis, i won't have a kitchen living in the house for 4 weeks which won't be easy.... hence trying to sort things fairly swiftly.
In relation to the appliances, you make a good point, warranty is essential. Most manufacturers offer 2 years as per standard it seems, but i think i may go back to the drawing board on that.
The one appliance i am a little unsure about is the Chimney Hood, as am struggling to find reviews and one at a reasonable price at 90cm - any recommendations on brands on this front?0 -

Who is fitting your kitchen, worktop, appliances and floor?
If you ate getting them fitter, seek advice from the tradesman doing the job.
They have preferred suppliers and will get a far better discount than you. Plus, they will know about logistics, lead times as well as companies to avoid particularly when it comes to after-sales service, replacing damaged items.
Why the obsession with getting everything off the internet and why source it yourself.
There are many tradesmen (including me) that refuse to do labour only.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

The tradesman doing the job has told me to get whatever i would like to have, and prior to purchase consult with him, ... that's about it...
Have wren kitchens coming in for a measure followed up by a design appointment so let's see how that goes i guess...0
