    Hope you're all saving up

    For what?

Plenty of other free email providers around.
  • Yet another nonsense thread as you still have a 15GB storage limit. I guess the actual facts wouldn't have made as good a headline though.

I've had my Gmail account for longer than I care to remember ... long before new UK users were obliged to use googlemail addresses rather than gmail addresses (a requirement which Google subsequently revoked). My current usage?

    3.36 GB (19%) of 17 GB used

So the actual story is 'people who fill their existing free storage space not allowed to carry on adding files unless they free up some space or pay for a plan that suits them better?'

Just checked and Imy first email to my GMail account was in 2008.

I keep just about everything (apart from spam) and I'm using a massive 1.09GB (7%).

I don't store much else on google (I have a dropbox account for that) and I'll be moving to a new email provider (when I finally get round to it).

    I think I'm safe for a bit.

By coincidence, yesterday I cleared lots of time-expired and no longer relevant junk from both my email accounts, one of which is Gmail. I did this because I thought a combined 1.7 GB was a lot, but I do it twice a year anyway, date set on my phone calendar. For Google photos, after the change from Google Drive, I now transfer any Google photos that I want to keep, to my Windows Pictures on the PC. That is saved twice weekly to my NAS. Taking Google stuff out of my other devices, makes a little more space on those devices. Actually made quite a difference to phone storage.

If google wants to stop keeping promises made, there is always the option of voting with one's feet, or with one's keyboard.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

I presume photos etc. on Google will also account for storage usage, hence why mine is higher.

I sorted my email by date (oldest first) and found I was one of the early adopters ... first email received was from Google on 26th August 2004. :)
First off, welcome. And thanks for agreeing to help us test Gmail. By now you probably know the key ways in which Gmail differs from traditional webmail services. Searching instead of filing. A free gigabyte of storage. Messages displayed in context as conversations.

The free unlimited google photos option is still there. The quality is perfectly good enough for the vast majority of users.
