What is the 15GB for? I assume it is for email linked to a gmail account.
Photos and music are also linked to the gmail account and at the moment you can have up 50000 songs free and according to this unlimited photos.......The free unlimited google photos option is still there. The quality is perfectly good enough for the vast majority of users.0 -
DoaM - was that back in the days of when Gmail was invite only? I remember a time when you couldn’t just ‘get’ a gmail email address, you had to be invited.
I knew a guy who had one and so got the invite so I’ve had my main one for quite a bit now. Just this talk of how old people’s accounts are made me curious when that likely was.0 -
You do know that you can upload your photos direct to Google photos for free and totally unlimited without eating your data. they are compressed with the Google algorithm but unless you've got plans to print your photos and enlarge them to the size of a bed sheet you cannot tell at allBy coincidence, yesterday I cleared lots of time-expired and no longer relevant junk from both my email accounts, one of which is Gmail. I did this because I thought a combined 1.7 GB was a lot, but I do it twice a year anyway, date set on my phone calendar. For Google photos, after the change from Google Drive, I now transfer any Google photos that I want to keep, to my Windows Pictures on the PC. That is saved twice weekly to my NAS. Taking Google stuff out of my other devices, makes a little more space on those devices. Actually made quite a difference to phone storage.
If google wants to stop keeping promises made, there is always the option of voting with one's feet, or with one's keyboard. If I ruled the world.......0 -

It may well have been - it was 15 years ago so I can't remember how I came to get it.0 -
2.47Gb on Mail
52 Gb of Drive
9Gb of Photos
Think I need to do some weeding!
Reduce 9GB of photos to Zero by compressing
Store photos & videos as "High quality"
Change your photos and videos from "Original quality" to "High quality," which doesn't take up storage space.
On a computer, go to photos.google.com/settings.
Click Recover storage. This won't change the quality of your future uploads.0 -

No, that's a combined total for emails, photos & My Drive.

842 MB (5%) since 2009
Hard to believe I could probably download 10 years' emails in about 20 seconds on a broadband link today.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Thanks for that, very interesting.
You would think the first link would also include music because you have to log on using the same user name and password to access it.
Anyway as long as they don't change the 50000 free song limit I will be happy https://support.google.com/googleplaymusic/answer/1143668?hl=en-GB0 -
Hmm had a look and first email i have isn't from Google so i must've deleted all that stuff. First is from May 2005 but i'm positive i had Gmail around 2004. This has made me curious now :rotfl:0

This is what we do here. Copies of our photos for friends to see or to share are uploaded to Google using their unlimited service. Quality is perfectly acceptable for that.
Originals are backed up in several other locations, on and off site.0
