Using a mobile phone in Cuba

I am going to Cuba for two weeks next month.
From what I can tell this is an expensive destination to use a UK SIM card in. Can anyone offer any guidance for fairly light use including some data? It seems that most hotels charge for WiFi but I'm guessing that would still be less expensive than mobile data.
I'm not sure if a local SIM card may be an option.

I suggest you ask this question on the Overseas board, to obtain advice from those who have been to Cuba. I'm not included among them, but it's not a place where availablity of mobile data connection can be taken for granted and WiFi for tourists at hotels may be the best bet, as you surmise.Evolution, not revolution0
