PayPal is trying to charge the ex-VAT price

Options
Hi all,

I’m looking to buy a new phone online & when I choose to pay by PayPal the Total amount shows the price ex-VAT.

Have I just found a loophole that I probably shouldn’t take advantage of?

  • Is it ethical to not give govt the VAT? Remember every pence goes towards our schools, roads, maintenance.

And there was me thinking most went on wasting copious amounts of our money on all sorts of things instead of the right things whilst planning ways to thwart what I voted for. Good to know they're so good with my money

I’d looked at buying it sim-free through clove.co.uk because they offered cashback. Put a 64GB iPhone11 in the basket, choose to pay via PayPal & the total asked for in ex-vat.
I ended up buying direct from Apple to save any hassle.

It's companies that pay VAT, not their customers. Unless the goods they sell are exempt of VAT, the company has to pay VAT as a proportion of the actual price they charge the customer and it doesn't matter what the websites says about VAT.

Their prices are shown as ex-vat on their website, I would presume the vat will be added when you actually checkout.
