Nationwide axes loyalty saver accounts

Following on from the regular saver, it appears Nationwide is now getting rid of the loyalty saver and ISA accounts:

Article on The Times

The article states that the accounts are now not available to new customers, and if you already have one it will remain open, but the interest rate could drop.

Personally, I had already started moving my accounts away, but these accounts were always handy for those who wanted to handle their money in one place.

The only thing that never drops at Nationwide is their fat cat CEOs salary. I shall be pulling money out of their crap accounts shortly.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I've been with Nationwide for a very long time and until relatively recently was very happy with my current account, ISA, regular saving account and indeed mortgage.

I too am off elsewhere as they now seem like a mean bank rather than even a mean building society!
  • I left them a while ago. Only keep FlexDirect as a back up current account. I have sent them a message asking what benefit there is for me to take out their new 1.5% 18 month loyalty account when I can get almost that rate with many other savings institutions for an instant access ac.

I'm staying with them for my main current account - it was marginally useful to have a reasonable instant access savings account in the same place but it's not like other current account providers are offering something better, and with faster payments these days it doesn't really matter that my savings account is elsewhere.

Can anyone suggest current accounts that are good options to move to?

That's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question as it depends hugely on what you're looking for.

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts/ offers different ideas according to whether readers are looking for:
    • switching incentives
    • interest
    • cashback
    • insurance
    • overdrafts
but there are many other ways of assessing accounts, such as
    • customer service reputation
    • branch network
    • app functionality/usability
    • location of call centres
    • etc
so you'd need to consider what's important to you in order to frame the question, after which the answer(s) can be identified!

We're out of love with Nationwide having both been members for many many years, our latest interaction involved removing my wife from a joint FD and placing her onto my sole FP accounts, a simple process for two existing long standing customers you'd think.

Oh no, a sorry tale of incorrect forms given and completed in branch, the same forms being returned by post as incomplete despite us having handed them back to the same branch advisor who sent them off for action, so fully completed forms taken back to branch again and handed over at counter, checked by a different advisor, sent off again, only for a totally different form to be returned as the other form was incorrect for that purpose.

After a formal complaint and a month's wait, compensation of £100 + expenses was paid, wife no longer a member as she was removed from the joint FD as requested!

I'm keeping the FP for the travel insurance and breakdown benefits, but apart from a small maintenance amount, the rest of our cash has gone/will be going on 31/10, elsewhere.
