Ideal combi boiler - keeps switching off

Hi
I have an Ideal mini combi boiler. It's only about 3-4 months old. It's situated in the loft. Over the last 2-3 weeks it has started turning itself off from time to time. It does restart by pressing the reset button, but it can take a few attemps. Does anyone know why it could be doing this please?
Thanks

Hi
The first step is to get the installer back (or at least call him/her) to confirm /deny it's a boiler fault or a system fault.(is the system pressure ok?)
If it's a boiler fault then it's under warranty call Ideal.

Hi thanks, I am going to get the installer back next week. The pressure is fine, it hasn't dropped at all. It's all rather annoying as I had a new boiler installed when the old one broke flooding the loft etc and now this one doesn't work properly either! I can see it being one of those tricky situations where its an intermittent fault and difficult to diagnose with the engineer saying its the boiler and Ideal saying it's a system fault - happy days!0 -
Thanks Aardvark. I realise my question is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string. I'll see what my corgi guy says. It has always happened in the evening and as its in the loft could it be getting cold?Aardvark_Heating wrote: »HI there!
Without being there to look at the problem, it may sound like you have an intermittent fault on your PCB. Get someone to have a look and/or check the pcb for dry joints, this maybe the problem but like I say without being there to take a look, it could be something else.
I wish you look.

Hi
Frost stat is built in to the boiler.
You don't need to take anything apart it's under warranty.

If it's a combi boiler and it's in the loft, it probably has a short flue. Is there a chance the flame could be being blown out? Does the problem happen when it's windy? Does the flue come out the side wall of your house?0

If the boiler is only 3-4 months old, it's not likely to have a pilot light flame to be blown out! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Well, to be honest I am not too sure about the pilot light but I do know it has a vertical flue and not a horizontal flue. I have had someone out from Ideal and they can't find a problem - surprise surprise! It was on and working at the time and its an intermittent problem. It hasn't happened since they came out but it has happened three times, about once every 1-2 weeks. Will it happen again - I will wait and see!
However if anyone has any brain waves, I would love to hear them!0 -
Hi
Did you get the installer back to look first?
Did the Ideal service guy mention anything about fault finding? Did your installer say anything either?
If not then they should. Look in your installation manual or user instructions and you will find a fault finding guide . This uses the neons on the boiler to tell you what it thinks is the problem.
If you don't have these bits of literature then whoever fitted it doesn't really care much about you or their work.
If you look at the Benchmark book it specifically asks if the installer has explained the controls to you,(the user) and the box is ticked.

my ideal boiler is now 1 year, and we have taken out a gas insurance thingy, when they cam to service it they groaned as apparently this particular model goes wrong often something to do with the electric circit board at the front, rather glad now i took out this insurance, hope its not one of the same models
ideals warantee should cover the first year anyway, hope you find the fault and its resolved fast before the real cold weather gets here.
totally debt free:j and mortgage free too 20100 -
hi
my boiler keeps cutting out on me, when it comes on, on the timer the boiler heats up the water for the central heating, when it has got to a certain temperature the boiler cuts out and will stay off for 1 minute, then it will come back on for 2 mins and keep doing that all the time the boiler is turned on for the central heating.
i have tried turning up the thermostat on the boiler but it still does the same and also i have tried turning up the thermostat by my front door and still does the same. the radiators are getting hot but thats it, they are not pumping the heat out like it used to.
the boiler has only started doing this for 2 days, before this it was perfect. my house used to be too warm and i would have to turn the heating off, but now it doesn't get warm enough and it only takes the chill out of the air.
any help would be appreciated.
