Try look at Seat's as fiesta's and other cars that i thought would be cheap on insurance ended up costing a fortune. I got a 1.6 Seat Ibiza and the insurance costs me much less than a 1.2 fiesta/corsa etc...

EDIT: try https://www.confused.com for insurance quotes.

EDIT: i've just been told asda will try and beat your best quote by 20%! so might be worth giving them a ring...

My daughter's 1992 (J) Citroen AX cost less than £700 to insure with Tesco, included break down insurance, this was on the day she passed her test and she was 17 at the time. We also used www.confused.com to shop around.

  • Think I found a really good buy! We went to look at a car that unfortunately was already sold (the dealer's wife got them muddled up). But, he had just bought a Peugeot 205 GL 1.1 from an elderly lady who had owned it from new, mileage only 67006. Managed to negotiate £450 plus he put it through the MOT, although no tax. Nothing wrong with the bodywork - so absolutely ideal. Telephoned elephant.com and insured her for £410 3rd party fire and theft (she's 20).

If you have gone with Elephant ask them how much it would be to go Fully Comp, its normally only a small amount on cheaper cars but at least then she is covered if she does have a bang and can get her car sorted. Perhaps its not worth it for the amount the car is worth but then again it may be worth just asking them.
