Car for my daughter

Hello all, My daughter is looking for a car, she is 20. We do not want to spend a great deal of money as she is at Uni. We have just been looking through the Thames Valley Auto and now we are thoroughly confused  We are thinking something small like a Fiesta. Any advice greatly appreciated for safety, fuel etc etc. Or has anyone spotted one that you may think is ideal. Thank you.

Just realised, I've put this in the wrong place - but don't know how to move it!

I would recommend the toyota yaris , but then it might not be "cool" enough for a 20 year old.

I sell cars - depending on how much you are looking to spend really but look into a 106, a fiesta or a Saxo, although the Saxo will probably set you back a bit more than the other 2.

Hello all, thanks for the responses. I wasn't quite sure how much I need to spend. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a really nice car as she has ncb and I'm sure she is going to have a few bumps or misjudge the drive and hit the wall! I'm not sure how much, I suppose £1,000 - would this be enough to get her safely from "a to b"? Something that is not going to break down and cost lots of money to repair. Cheapest to insure.

We have just spotted a Peugot 106 for £995 ono. 1 yr MOT, tax until July, average mileage. Year 1995. Does that sound ok?

    Or what about this one:

    Peugot 106 Escapade 1.1, 1996. 43,000 12 months MOT, 1 previous owner £795 ono. 1 owner.

if you take the average mileage to be 12,000 a year then the first car has probably done approx 90,000 - 108,000 miles and that might be why they do not state the mileage , neither do they say how many owners it has had , it doesn't say what model it is either . Based on these assumptions i would say the second one sounds like a better buy and it's cheaper and a year newer.
Do either of them have service history ?

    Thanks.

Just called the Peugeot Escapade and its gone. The first one is still available and is a Peugeot 106 1.1 Mardi Gras 1995. 1 yrs MOT, taxed to July 05.

How about this one? Citreon AX 1.0 dimension 1996 P reg, Mot & taxed, £695.

Get some idea of the insurance costs first. That could cost more than the car!

If you check a price guide website they will often have reviews as well as what is the current value.
I'm just selling a R reg renault clio, and can reccomend that as a good car. It's been an excellent runner, cheap insurance and has really been inexpensive to service etc, may be a good idea to see what prices are like in free ads or ebay to see if those cars are ok.
