UNwearable shoe

Husband bought Dr Martins costing £134.00 One of the shoes has a hard ridge on the leather on the tongue and despite trying to break them in are painful and unwearable. it pushes down on the top of his foot and he has tried to lace them so it doesn't press down but to no avail. They were purchased on 1/9 but after 6 weeks of pain can't think of what options we have, probably none, but its not a cheap thing to reconcile yourself to binning.

Are they faulty?
Can you pop to a shop and see if the "ridge" is part of a normal boot in this range or is this a fault on this pair.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

One has the hard ridge in the leather, like a hard bump from side to side. The other one has no ridge and is very comfy.0

It's worth trying to return them as it sounds as though they haven't been made properly, there shouldn't be a ridge. Leather does stretch over time, maybe it's worth trying to stretch the one a little to see if that makes a difference? I'd try exchanging them first though.0

Modern work boots shouldn't need wearing in, however those that do are invariably longer-lasting in my experience.

I'm not convinced a shoe stretcher would work for this issue - a ridge on the tongue that is present on only one boot.
If I was close to a DM shop, I'd pop in and ask what they think.
The OP doesn't say if they were bought online or in store.0 -
Use a Dremmel type tool to remove the ridge.0

Their online customer service team is very good, it's probably worth sending them an email/making a few sad faces over social media if it's not possible to pop into a shop. I have a few pairs, none of them have a ridge so it sounds like a manufacturing problem.0

They need to be examined by the retailer (and/or the manufacturer) to be sure...CakeCrusader wrote: »it sounds like a manufacturing problem.0 -

If I'd bought a pair of DMs (and I have at least 10 pairs) and one boot had a ridge and the other didn't, they'd have been taken back to the shop I bought them from or if bought online online, I'd still have taken them to a DM shop for their opinion.Moneyineptitude wrote: »They need to be examined by the retailer (and/or the manufacturer) to be sure...
