If you had paid by bank transfer and input the V5 numbers in on the HPI report you had, along with the V5 numbers you may of been covered by the HPI insurance.
If the owner of the stolen car you bought has received a payout from the insurers then you may be able to buy it off the insurance company - not sure if you would want to as it will be stolen/recovered, and not the original car you paid twice for.
You should of gone inside of the house on the V5C if you were handing over that amount of cash really but learn and move on.0 -
I messed up complete all I could see was the car, the officer said the original owners put a thrift claim with their insurance so assuming the car now belongs to their insurer.
you are right should of gone inside the house I messed up bl**dy big time. Don't really mind if its lost/ stolen now because I bought that car for my wife and she loved it.
Just need to wait for the officer to come back.0 -
@belenus
I bought it 5 months ago, did the usual checks including HPI, did not do the VIN check that long number on the car.
I am completely new to this did not know really what to look for let along cars being cloned.
bought the car on a side road seemed legit, I did not check the address.
The police stopped us just as a ransom check they said that they want to check insurance and license nothing about the car being stolen.
I have tried to get this ad back from gumtree and can not find it i called them up and even mailed them...
I just hope I can buy it back if anything the officer said he will pass my details to them with views to purchase the car,.
I feel like a complete doughnut didn't think soo much into buying a F**** car
If you had an HPI check, the report gives you the VIN number and says to check it. The VIN is usually easily visible at the bottom of the windscreen.
Even if I spent £500 on a car, I’d check the seller had the car at the registered address etc.
Do HPI not offer insurance against cloned cars etc?Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
What started as a grim story is turning into a Grimm story.
I'm out.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -

Yes it does, as long as you follow their guild lines, dont pay in cash, you need add the vin and V5C reference numbers before you buy etc etc0 -
