bought a Cloned car-- and police has it
Hello guys
I got pulled over last week and the police took my car and when I went to collect the car they refused to give me the car saying it is a cloned car!
I am out of pocket and the guy that sold it to me is in the wind currently trying to fine him and aid the police officers. Now the officer has said they will pass on my details to the original owner with the possibility of buying the car back, my question is how likely is that i will be able to buy it back?
any Scenarios that can play out?

Lots of scenarios, most if not all of them will leave you out of pocket.
Assuming you bought the car at the address on the V5 can you not bang on the door and see if he answers?0 -
What's cloned? Just the plate?
Did the VIN match the V5C?
Did the VIN on the car show any signs of having been tampered with?0 -
Lots of details missing here.
When did you buy it? What checks did you do?
Who did you buy it from? Did you buy it from the home of the registered owner or from a pub car park.
How much did you pay? Was it under priced? How did you pay? Cash?
Why did the police pull you over? For a driving offence, random check or because the number plate flagged up an issue for them?A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
@belenus
I bought it 5 months ago, did the usual checks including HPI, did not do the VIN check that long number on the car.
I am completely new to this did not know really what to look for let along cars being cloned.
bought the car on a side road seemed legit, I did not check the address.
The police stopped us just as a ransom check they said that they want to check insurance and license nothing about the car being stolen.
I have tried to get this ad back from gumtree and can not find it i called them up and even mailed them...
I just hope I can buy it back if anything the officer said he will pass my details to them with views to purchase the car,.
I feel like a complete doughnut didn't think soo much into buying a F**** car0 -
Try googling the mobile number0

After seeing the car advertised on Gumtree, how did you contact the seller?
If by phone or email you should be able to find the number or email address in your records although they may be of little or no use now.
Did you see the car more than once? Was it always in a side road?
What other checks did you do?
How much did you pay? Was it a few hundred pounds or a lot more?A man walked into a car showroom.

Why did they take it?
If they told you it was a clone at the roadside how come you went to collect it?0 -

I'm sure he'll be back to make up some answers because so far things aren't ringing true.0 -
Yeah well the stopped me and I was not insured on that car my wife was and Yes I do feel stupid and now paying for it. Bought the car for 16k cash, did the HPI check which was fine, the area looked fine the car was parked in front of houses did not raise any suspicions.
Just to make it clear, I am not a specialist I probably did not check everything that you guys expect to check which I learnt now and will do in the future. My biggest check is HPI
The officer goes The vehicle has been identified by its engine number.0 -
So it wasn't a random stop then. Why on earth would anyone hand over £16K in cash to a total stranger on the roadside.
The car is stolen on cloned plates so who exactly do you intend buying the car back from?0
