Oh sorry. No I've not tried that, but will give it a go. Wouldn't usually expect much water to make it's way in there from the shower/shallow baths though?

Depends on what you are doing in the bath. :rotfl:

...I'm worried it's a burst/dripping pipe under the bathroom tiles....

I can't get into the bathroom flooring as it's tiled down :(

I've checked under the bath panel and all looks bone dry.

Are there any water or drain pipes under the tiled area?

As it appears to be a one off or occasional problem rather than a steady leak then the most likely culprits are the traps under the sink, bath and shower rather than a water pipe. Can you see and access some or all of them?

We had a similar problem that proved to be a loose joint in the bath trap assembly where the overflow pipe met the main drain pipe. That was easy to fix.

Try filling the sink with cold water until it overflows down the overflow and search for a leak using a dry kitchen paper towel or similar. Place that gently all around all the joints and, it it gets damp, you have probably found the problem. Place another piece of paper on the floor under the traps as well and check for dampness caused by drips.

Repeat for the bath and shower drain of possible.

In order to avoid wasting too much water, pour water down the bath overflow rather then filling it right up.

    Good luck.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

get a small drill 2/3 mm and drill a hole in the ceiling, if you get water through, you have a problem.

Especially if that drill goes through a pipe. :rotfl:

  • Lol, don't think my skills extend to drilling through the ceiling! Got someone coming out tomorrow to have a look.

    Thanks all :)
