Advice needed re Tesco double the difference refunds please

Hi everyone
I was wondering if some of you more in the know about Tesco policies than I am may be able to help me with this.
I recently bought the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix DVD from Tesco online. I thought I'd get the offer to make it £8 instead of £14 when spending over £30 however, I was charged the full price. I asked on here and from your responses I decided to do nothing because
1 - Apparantly the offer had ended when I received my copy, and
2 - It would seem that the offer had only been valid in store and not online
Anyway, I received an email from Tesco today saying:
Thank you for your recent order of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix DVD from the Tesco.com grocery site.
Unfortunately there was a pricing issue at the time that you placed your order, and you were charged an incorrect amount of 14 GBP for this product instead of the advertised 8 GBP.
We are sorry for this error, and would like to inform you that we are crediting your payment card with 6 GBP. You should see this refund soon.
So I was just wondering if someone could tell me if this is right? Should I not be getting £12 back? I'm not completely in the know about how things work so not sure if this is just the policy in store, so would be grateful if someone could fill me in. Many thanks

I thought double the difference only applies if you bought an item instore and then found the same product cheaper at a competitors store.
They have reimbursed the amount you were overcharged BUT you could always ask them "as a gesture of goodwill" would they give you something else as well, though they are not obliged to.
Good luck.

the in-store policy is they will give you double the overcharge so if in store you were overcharged £6 you would receive £12 back thus making it only cost you £2 overall. however i dont know the terms and conditions online without reading them.0

I only got £6 back in store when I was overcharged for this item last week too. I thought I would get £12 but when I queried this I was told I didn't get the discount rather than was overcharged and therefore only due the £6. It didn't seem right but I was not confident in taking it further and had got the dvd at a reasonable price.0

I'm pretty sure that you should've got the £12 refunded. I've heard loads of people say that they'd got it for £2 that way. Not getting the discount is the same as being overcharged - they charged you more than the price it should've been therefore they have overcharged you.
I'm sure I read somewhere that the sa's had to put it through manually so there have been a lot of people getting charged £14 and then being refunded £12, so customer services are probably just trying it on with people that aren't 100% sure where they stand ie, you and IStarted comping 29/10/2010

sorry sunnth but they did you. they are under the isntrutions that if they can get away with it they must. if it ever happens again point to the blue sign behind customer services and it clearly states tesco's policy and they cant get out of it.0

Yep, you were fobbed off. An overcharge is an overcharge, regardless of whether it was down to incorrect SELs or cashier error. You paid more than you were supposed to, thus you were overcharged. As such, you should have had double the value of the overcharge = £12. I had the same issue - was charged £14 instead of £8. They tried to fob me off (cashier error, then told I didn't leave the store, so it didn't apply), but I wasn't having it. Got my £12 refund.
As far as I know, DTD doesn't apply to dot com orders. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

I think you'll find that Tesco have stopped the double the diff refunds.
If I were you I'd be pleased that there Customer Service seem to have slipped up on the £60 -

Is this just a spam comment to put people off? I presume it is but I to am unsure of the current Tesco Policy - I can't remember seeing the policy notice anywhere in store and for future reference I would like to know if I am within my rights to stand there and ask for double the difference?0
