Hardly. Gearbox, turbo, ECU failure, diff, sat nav are all big price items that could easily fail. The engine itself could go bang.
None of which are components likely to need replacing due to wear within 100k...
The BMW / Mondial extended warranty is one of the best you can get.
I'm sure. And it still doesn't cover wear and tear.

I've just had a quote for mine and it's £550 per year if you don't include their emergency service cover (£633 with). Of course you can reduce this a bit by adding an excess - £411 (£100 excess) or £320 (£250), so in the event of a claim you're still going to be paying over £500 anyway. I'm not convinced it really is worth it.

    So one claim per year...
    £550 / £0 excess
    £511 / £100 excess
    £570 / £250 excess

    Two claims/year...
    £550 / £0 excess
    £611 / £100 excess
    £820 / £250 excess

That £250 excess option really isn't great value, is it? Not unless you're gambling on the premium being a waste of money in the first place...

At the end of the day isn't this what you're doing with any type of extra warranty.

No, you're normally gambling that your car is going to be far less reliable, and far more expensive, than average.

Which is why gambling that you won't need the warranty seems odd.
If you think you're going to need it once, get the £100 excess. If you think you'll need it twice, get the £0 excess.

Yes, though they might fail, thus the point of the extended warranty?

Anyone taking out an extended warranty does to cover unexpected failure of a component not to attempt to cover wear and tear.

I think hes suggesting Mazdas are unreliable.

The bigger joke being he bought an Alfa. New. :rotfl:

Thanks for all the responses folks.

It would be the Volvo V90, or the BMW 3/5 series tourer. I don't really like the look of any other estates. It would be for 3 years and 12.5/15k miles.
In that case, negotiate on Volvo Service package. I read people getting it for £399 and some for free. Services are quite expensive and annual.

Can I just remind you how we headed down this diversion?

Some warranties DO cover wear and tear - this is from my BMW insured warranty - which is an extended warranty which kicks in after the 3 year original warranty expires.
