On the other hand, I hate receiving them, as the nearest branch of my bank is 12 miles away so cheques sit around in my purse until I have other reasons to go into town. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

We hardly get any, but the ones we've had recently I've paid in using the app cheque scanning facility, with no issues.0 -

Post Office? Is there one nearer than your bank branch?0 -
I don't want a cheque book as nobody uses cheques now.
That's nonsense - a lot of people still use cheques!
And why are you making such a fuss about asking your bank for a cheque book?
In the time you've taken arguing the toss with DVLC, you could have rung your bank/dropped into the bank/gone on line and ordered a cheque book!
There is nothing to compel you to continue to use cheques after writing one to the DVLC!0 -

I appreciate that I could pay cheques in the joint account and then transfer them to my personal account but that kind of messes up my record-keeping!!!!!! .
I am sure one day everything will be electronic and I shall get fat and old just sitting at my computer moving my money around. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
My chequebook now lasts for years and I write very few cheques, but I do still have occasion to write them and would not choose to be without the chequebook.0

I have a cheque book. Somewhere....I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

When I worked in a civil service accounts department back in the early 90's, we posted payable orders out twice a week. Hundreds of them. They were effectively cheques.0
