Peugeot 206 - exhaust snapped

Hi.
Centre part of exhaust in my 206 snapped. The garage quoted £250 for the repair for replacement of front and rear part of the exhaust (without middle part). It it a good price? It seems like a lot to me for not replacing the whole exhaust.

Thanks.

    Try more than one garage.
  • Is it a local garage that came recommended to you, or Kwik Fit?

If the latter, go to the former!
  • Local garage in Kent.

So this is what the full exhaust looks like (assuming 8v not 16v)...

I doubt they'll replace the short bit and the back box without doing that long centre section. Pointless, and it'd probably cost you more by the time they've mucked around with it.

A quick google for prices suggests you'd be spending somewhere half that total bill on the three sections for DIYing it, plus fixing kit etc. And that's shopping around, rather than just calling the local factor to put 'em on the next van.

You're in the SE, so that leaves somewhere around an hour, hour and a half labour? Not ridiculous at all.

Drive-in, drive-out, £250 inc VAT doesn't seem too high to me. More, obvs, if the cat and downpipe need doing.

Shop around. With labour costs being what they are, I'd get as much of it changed as is practicable if you intend to keep that car for a while.
  • I had the back, middle long pipe and front short pipe replaced on an 8v 206 back in 2010 for £90 at a local garage.

    A decade ago.

Can't get the parts for that now.

Hi op, Depending on where it has snapped sometimes you can either weld a small pipe inbetween the snappped area essentially making a join, not all places will do this as its not really worth it for them, i do it my self at home. but note this is only a short term fix it may last months may last years

Is £250 a good price? well that depends on what brand of exhaust they are using and what they charge per hour. if you do go the new exhaust route dont get it from euro car parts they exhaust's are not correct and they are a pain to fit. let us know how you get on
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”
