What causes a car to go into a spin?

Yes, a clockwise spin, more than full circle.
A BMW, rear wheel drive. I was turning to the left to leave the roundabout, and the car span to the right. I don't think I steered very much as the spin happened because it seemed ineffective.
Pretty much impossible.
Booting as you turn left would make it spin anti clockwise.0 -
Fuel spill, excess speed or slick tyres.0

Actually I've just looked up what a mini-roundabout is, and it wasn't one of those, just quite a small roundabout. Maybe I span clockwise, but that wasn't my recollection.0

Slightly worrying that you have a licence and don't appear to know what a mini-roundabout is!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

As per the other two posters. If this came as an unexpected surprise to you, it wasn't icy cold, and you aren't one for "spirited" driving then a diesel spill is the most likely culprit.
I remember driving over one as a passenger when my friend was driving round a roundabout and it was like being on a skating rink, no noise, no real speed, the tyres just stopped doing anything until we gently pirouetted over to the other side of it!• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

It's hard to picture the front wheels missing the diesel yet both rears hitting it.
Even then, there's some serious momentum to continue into a full 360deg+ spin.0 -
Does the OP have dash cam footage to show?
Because otherwise there's not way for anyone to know anything apart from the fact that a 360 degree spin must be caused by not driving to suit the conditions at the time.0 -
