    That would result in a £276 loss, due to cancellation fees and some non-refundable bits.

    Well then if it is not worth losing £276 just accept that things happen and consider yourself lucky that they got you another flight only 4 hours later.

    I imagine it has been a bit of a nightmare reorganising all these Thomas Cook holidays .

    After page 3 I went and got a glass of wine, came back here and, WHAT!
    The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
