Peugout, water under floor of car behind drivers seat
Options
I managed to spill water on the floor of my daughters car which I dried up immediately. There was still a squidgy sound form under the carpet so I used a needle & syringe to remove lots of water. I feel that I've removed much more water than I spilt so I'm now wondering if I have pierced something under the carpet?
Is anyone able to tell me if any pipes or hoses with clear liquid in run under the carpet of a peugout 208 petrol car?
She has only had the car for 6 weeks & I hate that I've done this

Can't really tell you anything definite. I can't think of anything with water in it under the carpet. The only thing I can think of offhand that goes front to back is the rear window wash tube.
Probably a bad idea to poke needles around like that though in general.
Paper towels, or rags pressed down on the carpet to lift any water would be better, or a wet and dry vacuum.
The water is most likely down to a leaky seal somewhere. Might be a blocked drain somewhere too. Drain as in drain holes in the bottom of the doors, and at the bulkhead that is. Could be a displaced blanking plug.
The only real way is to investigate further.0 -
The carpets are usually plastic backed and very difficult to get dry, particularly at this time of year.
You would be better off getting the carpet out if you can to dry it out and hopefully see if there are any other leaks.0 -
It's not the pipes and hoses to worry about but any electrics down there. French car + Electrics + water = get it sold pronto. :rotfl:0

soak the most of it up with towels then just put some cardboard/ news papers in the car to absorb any damp left and leave the windows open a bit if its not raining.0

Not normally any water / fluid pipes running under carpets in cars, if there were, (eg brake fluid), these would be external / underneath, certainly nothing "in cab"....probably spilt more than you thought?0

The carpet seems dry, just a wee squidgy sound as if water is trapped under which the needle & syringe had been removing well until I considered that I was causing further damage - feel really stupid for taking this approach!
Have been putting a fan heater on low in the car when she's not driving it & kitchen roll when she is. Also put one of those portable dehumidifies in.
Thank you for all your helpful suggestions0 -
Does it have a sunroof?0

First check for me would be around the door seals. Make sure they are home by giving them a whack/push with your hand all round.
Our old Picasso had the same issue but worse as it filled up the rear underfloor cubby holes!
There are drain holes in the bottoms of the doors. you can check these are clear by poking the holes with a wire or the like.
They are there to let rain water drain out the door.0 -
The car is less than 1 year old & as far as I can see everything looks dry apart from where I spilt water. Just seems like I spilt less than I've manage to remove!
It's very reassuring that no one seems to be convinced that there are any water/fluid pipes under the carpet of a 208 that I'd pierced - I was really upset at the thought that I'd caused even more damage.
Hopefully it will dry out but might take a while in sunny Glasgow!0
