hi there I am useless with phones but have just switched from an iphone 4 to a Huawei Y6 (like new condition from O2 unlocked)

I am trying to set up my googlemail account and cannot get past the bit that says "Huawei email wants to access your Google Account" with various warnings as to what this may entail.

I have the choice of cancel or allow - clicking cancel means I will never be able to access my emails on the phone.

I have tried googling but to no avail.

Also where is the text icon on the screen? Having said that I need to transfer my telephone numbers/text messages from the iphone as because I don't have many people I phone or text I never added them t contacts so presumably I won't be able to transfer them over.

Sorry for rambling on and thanks for any advice.

Text icon is generally an upside down speech bubble with 3 lines inside, the app is called messages

Are your contacts synced with your Gmail account ?

When I say synced do they show in your Gmail account, login and they should show in contacts.

The facebook messanger app should have what looks like a lightning bolt on a blue background.

If your contacts are synced to iCloud then you will either need to install an app or move your contacts to a different account as android does not support the open standard carddav.

How are you going about it? The best way is probably to install the Gmail app, then sign in with your Google account.

On my Huawei the SMS app is called 'Messaging', a white speech bubble on blue, in the unmoving lower row.

There are certainly methods of transferring contacts from IPhone to Android, but only if saved in the contacts list, as you surmise. Otherwise, manual.
    Evolution, not revolution

I was clicking on the email icon then clicking on gmail then it says you will be redirected to the Google authorisation page, then clicked continue then it says choose an account to continue to Huawei email then if you press continue it comes up with the message about huawei email wanting to access your google account

If you want to use the Huawei email app you will need to grant it access to your gmail account else you won't be able to use that email app.

I don't really want to use Huawei at all I just want to be able to access m emails - or will it not do any harm to allow Huawei to access my details? Just don't want to be bombarded with stuff from huawi. I have had 2 huaweis previously and don't remember having to allow them access to anything. thanks

Perhaps use the gmail app instead?

Letting a Huawei app have access to your gmail account is really no different to you already letting google snoop on your anyway so I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are not bothered already.
