- remind me never to build a bower. No creepers, either with roots or legs.
I have a lovely wooden Arbour Ming. I found it in Homebase years ago having popped in for some JI no2 for my latest grown in Scotland Christmas tree to live outdoors until the following Christmas. Arbour was the only one left in stock and a third of the original price. It's covered in honeysuckle and has a roof so a lovely place to sit on a sunny day watching the birds, reading , knitting or just relaxing. There are always butterflies flitting in and out, ladybirds and Spiders. It seems you're unlikely to pop in for a cup of Yorkshire tea and cake in the garden. I seem to have found a Ming deterrent!sI've been increasingly considering moving a couple of miles to a village that doesn't get the full force of the Irish sea gales however I wouldn't leave the arbour behind- think that would need craning over the garage roof. My collection of 3ft with roots Frasier firs when I bought them are now planted out as they grew too big to get indoors after a few years. I wouldn't like to leave them behind either so they'd have to be taken through the garage on the sack truck. I have strange dilemma's.Youngest is looking a lot better which is a relief after the reaction to the jab. 10 days of fever, migraines and then the neck glands swollen and painful had left her sleepless and exhausted. We managed a walk around the back garden to check what else was flowering. Little black cat appeared with a tiny rodent and was told off. She'd eaten about an hour earlier but all these years on doesn't seem to have lost the memory of being starved. left alone with her brother when the previous owner would fly abroad for weeks leaving them without food or water. her brother seemed to have been the forager back then feeding them both but knows when he'll be fed now and was straight to my bag for treats.Lots of posts to catch up on here. I had a hackney driver I've never seen before bringing me home.He was masked , it's mandatory here with the proper hackney's. There's been a screen between driver and passenger for years and I always wear a mask. He pulled his mask up higher, halfway up his glasses. Twas like an episode of Mr Magoo- he couldn't see where he was going. It had started raining when dd and I were in the back garden so I distracted myself from impending hitting a bollard or worse by looking at all those outside bars and restaurants on the high st.Wetherspoons was heaving , no room on the pavement outside, they had the big umbrellas over the tables but many bars had none. The idea of sitting in wind and rain getting soaked didn't appeal to me but distracted a little from the drivers constant swerves and sudden braking. He was talking about how brilliant Boris is which at least reminded me to ask him to pull over at a postbox so I could post my Postal Vote.3 different elections , not entirely happy with the very narrow choices but remembered the young mill girl who threw herself under the kings horse when fighting for votes for women. I've always voted and have always been free to do so therefore I need to remember, how hard it was to have that freedom.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Lovely sunny morning here after a few showers overnight. Too cold to be outside for long, so after taking doggie for a quick pit stop I just popped out to feed the robin (he also eats s-----s so I encourage him to visit).
Talking of traumatised cats, DS is caring for a rescue cat, 16 years old, who wouldn't drink out of her water bowl, but jumped into the bath looking for water to drink, presumably used to a dripping tap. He now puts her water bowl in the bath, and she drinks from it there.
Shoes I ordered from Pavers have been delivered, and actually are a bit big, at size 5 (38), recently shoes I have bought have been just too short, by varying lengths, so infuriating, I have been wearing sneakers a lot.
Expecting lots of tourist type visitors in town this weekend so we will stay home, and hope to enjoy the garden. As a treat I bought some ice cream, looking forward to that! And I will make some lemon cake for tea.7 -
Hello from South Shropshire, had a difficult winter, but finding my mood better now that the days are longer and some of them sunny and warm, the cold winds have seemed to go on an on though.
My BIL's cancer decided to send it's evil tentacles to 2 more parts of his body and he lost the battle a few weeks ago, DM has struggled with not having visitors for so long at her care home, not been able to talk to her very much as my hearing is poor and she has nodules on her vocal chords and is really croaky, but we took delivery of new phones recommended by what was RNID, on charge at the moment so hoping for good things with them tomorrow. Then OH and I were devastated mid-September to find our gorgeous collie dog was diagnosed with a large mass on her liver and then had 2 seizures, oh my the tears did flow. Brilliant vets prescribed steroids and a liver support supplement and thankfully the growth has shrunk drastically, she will be 12 in August (fingers crossed), but currently is happy, energetic, eating well, put on weight, we weaned her off the steroids a few weeks ago.
OH and I have both had our seconds jabs this week, great news for him, less so for me as I do not make antibodies, it is hoped that those of us with this condition might benefit a little from T Cell response, but studies are showing that no one is making antibodies, this is exactly as expected so no nasty shocks.
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)6 -
Hope everyone is OK with this interesting weather, we've had several hail storms in last few days here, put paid to my gardening plans, and I know worse conditions in other areas. I've been staying in crocheting a cosy baby blanket, just quick pit stops in the garden for doggie, who also hates cold weather.
Maddiemay I had my 2nd jab last week, at the Bowling Centre in Shrewsbury, a few days mild fluey symptoms, then fine again. Sorry to read about the loss of your BIL, and then your poorly dog. Sending sympathetic virtual hugs.
Tried a new recipe tonight, lemon and garlic (just used paste) chicken bake, with potatoes and green beans, mix it all up, shove in oven for an hour, it was really successful, easy, and DH was pleased to wash up as only one dish involved.
Will need to brave the weather to go shopping tomorrow. We are out of milk and bread, which is actually good management, as Thursday is our shopping day.7 -

Due to the delay with OT the Social Housing provider has been very gracious and given me Band C on the strength of current medical evidence.
Once I've had my assessment they will look at upgrading me to Band B.
So now I can start the bidding process and start on the list making of everything I will need...I hope things have progressed for you now. It's a while since I've posted here so fingers crossed you are getting somewhere .pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

It's strange catching up on old posts. I am so sorry your BIL lost his fight. I was 15 when my beloved dad lost his fight young. In a way he was spared too much suffering as Pneumonia took him.rather than the Cancer so a small blessing in the 60s when there wasn't the treatment and pain relief available then that helps many now.I hope your lovely collie companion is plodding on. I remember your description of the walks you took .How are things now healthwise? I hope you've had lots of time in the garden. After a cold damp winter it is good to feel warm and see things spring back into life. Sadly the weeds seem to be making the most of it too.I imagine you have seen your mum a number of times. The care home next door to where youngest is staying opened the doors recently and the ladies were enjoying lunch and afternoon tea in the lovely garden.Youngest and I were sitting in the sun when suddenly big ginger Mog sat up , pricked up his ears and was over a 7ft wall in seconds. He'd been over that wall every day since Feb 2020 and met with closed doors. First time I've seen a cheshire cat grin on a real cats face. He's established himself as a therapy/ assistance cat, we're just waiting for him to demand PPE.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

And I will make some lemon cake for tea.I hope all is well with the poor rescue cat. Our much loved gone but never forgotten tabby was found in a Skip. RSPCA named him Skippy which seemed pretty cruel but we renamed him as we left the building. For ages he would balance on the edge of the bathroom basin, or sink drainer waiting for drops. He fell into the bath a number of times while youngest was having a bath. When all else failed it would be try the bird bath and water desperation was a muddy puddle. He had a nice water bowl but didn't go near it. I spotted him watching me turning on the outdoor tap to turn the hose on so put his bowl under the tap and he was fine.He began to follow the hose around then when the weather changed we started putting his bowl outside the kitchen door, bringing it in on a miserable wet and windy day. He was ok with that. The vet reckoned he was about a year old and judging by the damage to his paw pads and old cuts and wounds had had a very tough time. He soon made up for that and became King of the House.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
