Who to contact? How to get Fibre?

My internet provider is currently Sky who overall I am very happy. The issue is that the max speed on my street (I emphasise the word street) is only 11mb with extremely slow (0.08mbs) upload speeds. This makes working at home, video calls, and uploads almost impossible.

I have searched online for other providers with no luck. I’ve written to Sky who asked me to speak to BT open reach. BT Open Reach didn’t get back to me despite writing 3x. What makes this worse is the fact the surrounding areas all have super-fast broadband available and we have a BT telephone box close by with ‘Super-fast’ in your area written all over it.

My presumption is that the builder on my small estate (10 years ago) didn’t add the correct infrastructure which I understand isn’t BT Open Reach or Sky’s fault. The question is how to I go about getting a higher speed internet installed not just for myself but the 12 houses on my small estate?

Who is ultimately the decision-maker?

You might not be connected to it, though. Are you sure it's a Fibre Cabinet - a newer one with vents?

Use https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ and it should tell you which Cabinet (PCP) you are served by, and what services are available. The Cabinets (green boxes in the street) usually have their number spray painted on them.

If you are connected to the Fibre Cabinet there might not be any slots available so there may be a waiting list.

Almost certainly a capacity issue at the street cab. If there are not enough people as prospective FTTC subscribers, then OR won't make the investment in additional capacity.

And to be clear Fib doesn't come from that cabinet anyway: Only FTTC. You need a joint/manifold etc for fttp.

Openreach aren't a consumer facing organisation. They are set up to deal with telecos and ISPs, which is who their customers are. Sky should not have told you to talk to them.

If you talk to Sky again, point out that the contractual relationship is between you and Sky, you are not and cannot be a customer of Openreach whereas they are.

There is only one circumstance where you can deal with OR. They do deal with some errors in databases and use to have an e-mail for it.

Hi Guys - The BT checker above didn't work for some reason so I check on Sam Knows.

    BT FTTC broadband availability

You are connected to the Drighlington telephone exchange.

FTTC is available in your area

    BT FTTP broadband availability

You are connected to the Drighlington telephone exchange.

FTTP is not yet available in your area

So taking your advice - My best option is to go back to Sky for more info?

Can you pay for this privately if Sky isn't willing?

If fttc is available at your address then usually fttpoD is also available. But thats only worth persuing if you're prepared to spend £1000s to get that done.

If the dls link is buggy you could try the postcode or address tabs on that link.

    otherwise

https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/exchanges/find (add Drighlington and then your postcode)

Says fttp on your exchange for me (but i'm not using your postcode to refine the search)

https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband the checker there might also say.
