Shark Vacuum Cleaners - A Good Buy?

My Dyson DC45 is getting a bit old now.
It still works okay but I'm having to fully clean it a lot more and the brush bar stops turning with the slightest of pressure.

Keenly looking at Sharks.

The Shark DuoClean Cordless IF260UKTH seems like a good replacement, although I'm a little worried the bin isn't as big as the Dyson.

However I've seen the Shark Powered Liftaway IC160UKT at the same price. I guess this just has a bigger bin and no bendy pole?

Both come with a 5 year guarantee, both with a pet tool.

I'm thinking the former as it'll be lighter, comes with 2 batteries and is smaller.

Anyone have any advice?

  • I don't have either but I do have access to Which? who gave the following reviews:

    IF260UKTH
    Score: 60%

    Pros
    • Great for picking up large debris
    • Good for clearing up pet hair
    • Effective allergen filter
    • Versatile and easy to use
    • Long run time from a single charge
    • Compact storage
    • Detachable handheld cleaner
    Cons
    • Poor floor cleaning in upright mode

    IC160UKT
    Score: 63%

    Pros

    • It's very good at cleaning in crevices
    • It's minimum power setting is better than most and it has excellent allergy filters
    Cons
    • It's disappointing on carpets and it doesn't clean up pet hair very well

In short, both seem rubbish on carpets.

I'm still to be convinced by cordless vacuums. I have a corded Shark Duoclean Lift-away (an older NV800UKT) and it's the best vacuum I've had to date, beats my old Dyson upright hands down.

We have had a Shark duo with bendy pipe bit for 4 months and it is very good. Got a new/ex-display with only 1 battery and no box for £169.99 on Ebay. Looked unused and was spotless inside and out.
Battery life is good but you have to take the battery out to charge it while the Dyson charges when hung up.

I have the Dyson 10 cordless and it is amazing except that removing the long tube is near impossible. Cleaning wise it rocks. Maybe the shark is as good or better, I have no idea.

I can't speak from personal experience but I know someone who runs a house cleaning business and she swears by them.

I have a Shark corded liftaway.
It's seems very powerful in normal use but the 'bag' is very small easily filled after 1 use.
Also the pet hair attachment is worse than useless as it relies on the suction to drive the little brushes which it does not.

I have a Sebo corded 1300 watt and a Dyson V6 (or 8, not sure but its nearly new). The Dyson is great for being portable but the Sebo wins hands down every time for suction.

I too have the Dyson V10 and have no problems with the long tube but being elderly with back problems it has been a godsend so for me it was worth the extra costs. Its a different way of working to having a corded. I no longer do a weekly clean all over the house but typically do a 5 min clean on one room or another on a daily basis. It hangs on the kitchen wall so no more getting a cleaner out of a cupboard. The stairs is a doddle.

Having watched the GTech cheesy advert with the man fed up being tethered by the cord, I decided that I disagreed with this and that a cord is far less annoying than a battery powered vacuum that runs out of juice!!

I replaced my Dyson with the Shark Uplift NV601UKT about 6 months ago and am very impressed.

My parents thought I’d had the carpets professionally cleaned as it picks up so much muck!! The suction is so good it almost lifts one of my carpets!

It has this light on the front which shows up every speck of dust on a kitchen floor.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
