  • Well my third tin is nearly full. Looking forward to 'd' day on Dec 1st. Strange that I have saved so much but Not a lot of spending required. I have free range turkey in freezer (from OH staff sales shop), tins of roses for all the family (bogof) from Tesco, and we are home on Christmas Day only as we will go to see Norwich City FC away on Boxing Day and then to daughter on the Sunday. We also have packets of nuts and figs etc half price from health shop. Will just buy ham to roast and lots of salad, the rest will go into food account for rest of winter. I do hope to reach my target of £100 with three tins but will try and find a bigger sealed to save wasting all these small ones.
Also have all our cards bought in sales in January, also wrapping paper. Put a reminder on calender about this. My grandchildren have money now so this has been saved in Christmas account as suggested by Martin. :T

  • Hiya guys,
I've not been around for ages as feeling low, trying to catch up on thread but this could take a while. Steadily ploding along with the pot challenge but did have a question for you.
When I looked on the challenges thread i joined loads including sealed pot,£2 coins, 20p coins, and money you find on the street, so what I want to know is, although I add these up for each challenge, would they all count towards this one as they are all in sealed pots IYKWIM?
I keep thinking about making a piggy for the next challenge but must find nyk's thread on how to do it!

My preferred paste recipe for the creation of unusual sealed money pots/pigs/cows

Mix one cup plain flour with one cup water
Bring 2 cups water to the boil
Slowly stir in the cup of paste
Simmer until it looks like paste
Bung it in a plastic tub and sit it in a basin of cold water to cool it down
Coat your strips of newspaper/magazines/bank statements in the paste and stick to the balloon.

I use cut up egg cartons for feet and snouts, cut down toilet roll inner tubes stuffed with scrunched up papers for legs, nilk carton tops for feet/noses etc and cut up cardboard or paper for tails / ears etc.

The above paste recipe is used for the simple fact that the kids tend to stick their hands in their mouths and flour/water paste is not toxic.

My finished articles are painted with emulsion or poster paints, whichever you have lying around the house, but you could miss out the painting by making the last layer of paper from the same colour or by cutting out shapes, like the the OP did when making 'Spot the Pig'. Phil the Pig is pink emulsion and cash cow is white emulsion with black poster paint.

Make sure your final creation is dried out solid before you cut a slot in it and burst the balloon, otherwise you'll end up with a soggy heap :rotfl:

Hope this helps and please leave us a photo on here to see.

I've combined this challenge with my 'start a cottage' industry challenge and have now got a completely sealed wooden box made from off-cuts plus Christmas gifts for family members - mum's getting a cash cow LOL (Hope she isn't reading this!! )

Hiya stunty, good to see you again, complete with aftershave! I must have been searching at the same time as you were on.

Hi HWGA, Nyk's pit (or should that be pork!!) recipe was on p26, but yer tis.

I second what stunty says about you feeling low, that's the time to talk to us to see if we can raise your spirits with our jovial chatter. How about a run, or a good few brisk walks to get those endorphins going.

To answer your question, as far as I can see, it makes no difference what is saved where and where you put the total. So do what you're happiest with and put it all here by all means. I don't think mumzy would think differently either. One way or tother, it's all savings!:D

    All the best HWGA.

    Morning stunty,
How's yourself & mrs S, a bit cold this morning. There was hail this morning at 5:00 am, luckily I missed it, it went off as I left home & started again just as I got to work. Have to go and do a bit now, as the boss is giving me funny looks. Catch you later big fella

  • LC- i don't have a Celebrations tub, I have a 4.5 litre (empty) bottle of whisky! And a paper mache pig called Sergeant Save!

Some change in the pig for me. Had to buy a spider repeller (electronic one) for the flat cause Mrs S saw a huge one and isn't happy coming to visit!

On another plus point, I didnt need to get a repair man to the washer, it had started making funny noises, but it turned out to be the under wire thingy for one of Mrs S's undergarments! one set of pliers and a bit of swearing later and it was working again. Thank God!

Young master S (the nephew) has acquired himself a part time job at Morrisons while he goes through full time college. He's a good kid and his head is firmyl screwed on.

Hope everyone's ok and tickety boo.

Sorry Stunty:o - Who did say they have the celebrations tub:confused: Maybe I'd had a vino too many and misread the thread.....

A few coins in the pottie today. Can't wait until opening time. Only a few weeks left.:D:D:D

Ooooooh! It was Sparky0107.....the secret celebrations muncher.
    Save me from spending...
