Can someone please clarify? If we open one flex direct in my name, one in my OH's name, and one joint, will we get the 5% interest on each of these accounts?
Yes you will, if you comply with the T&Cs...which I'm guessing you haven't read yet, as if you had you wouldn't need to ask your question. But why stop there?...each of you refer each other to switch accounts in from elsewhere and you will more than double your 12 month return.

Interest on 3 full accounts is around £366
2 x cross firing referrals is worth £400
Total £766. It would be rude not to!

It used to be the case that you could open a FlexDirect account and once it was closed, open another one over 12 months later and still get the 5% interest.

    Is that still the case?

"You can get the 5% rate on more than one FlexDirect account as long as you haven’t opened accounts in that name or those joint names before. If you open new accounts in the same name or joint names as previous accounts, they'll earn the standard 1% AER rate, even if you’ve closed the first accounts in those names"

Has anyone tried opening another one after 12 months of closing the old one and still getting the 5%? I've done it in previous years but at that point I think the terms were slightly different that you couldn't have held and FlexDirect account in the previous 12 months.

    Unfortunately not.

Like all the other benefits that loyal customers used to get (free travel insurance, regular savers, reasonable savings rates, etc.). they've all been taken away to fund the ever increasing pay to the directors!!!

Time to be rude! My OH and I have a joint Flexplus account. Can we earn £100x4 by referring each other and cass switching our "left over after 5 referrals" Santander everyday single current accounts with 2 direct debits each to our joint Flexplus. At least this would offset loss of 3% interest on the Flexplus and the 5% on the regular saver.

Things are not always made easy for you to find.

Nationwide Free European Travel insurance, (no longer available) has been reduced from age 75 years to age 70 years before you have to pay an extra top up. Before age 70 years it is reviewed each October and notification sent out each November to let you know your insurance is valid another year because you still have the account and paid in £750 a month over the last year. So when you are age 64 years you can stop paying in the £750 a month from November it would seem but !!!! not worth the risk if you want to rely on it. You are allowed one condition and one medication without additional fee abut don't for example cancel your statin medication if you also have Metformin as a type 2 diabetic because it will be classed as refusal of medication. They inform me that your policy would still be valid for a second medication providing the claim was not a result of your pre existing medical condition.
