Smart meter display question
I have a couple of questions on smart meters
I know that a smart meter in house display will show you how much energy you are using in £ and kWh but does it show what the actual meter reading is?
If not do any of the energy companies have an app or web page where you can see the meter reading?

They all should. But best to read the meter anyway in case of error. I would unless they are in a painful place! You'll ignore the IHD after a month anyway. Well most will I have mine still to show the daily usage. Still use the actual meters for reads.
(I even had a smart read on the website once when I logged in that was wrong (gas), was fixed after the next months read though (and yes they read them monthly even if they take half hourly data)).
Additional. And yes to the app, but as per above it will only update monthly. Read the meter if yuou want it more often (Or the IHD if you must!).0 -
The Pipit 500 that came with my Secure smart meters does not show the actual meter readings, only usage in £ and kWh. I only use it as a means to quickly check daily usage. I'd have thought it was fairly simple to display the meter readings, so no idea why it doesn't.
Octopus take half-hourly readings and they use the half-hourly ones for Agile (electricity) and daily usage for Tracker (gas).0 -
Mine does - I have checked that the display gives exactly the same reading as the meter. It also allows me to look at my consumption history going back up to 13 months although it doesn't transmit data back to the supplier any more (I've swapped supplier four times since the smart meter was installed)
The meter was supplied by SSE about three and a half years ago and the associated IHD has the SSE logo but I suspect that it's an In Home Displays Smart Energy Tracker SmartView2.
I can't comment on what other suppliers kit can displayNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
I currently read the meters once a week and have several years records so I was hoping to be able to do away with the weekly opening the meter cupboard ritual . I am with Npower and my current tariff is coming to an end and most new deals insist on having a smart meter installed, which I have no objection to as long as it is SMETS2.0

Mine does, I think they all will.0

Hi,
who supplied the ihd?
There should be a menu button to allow you to scroll through varies options.0 -

It is the world s worst domestic smart meter display showing 8 digits and a small almost invisible decimal point before the last digit which has to be ignored..
Plenty of room for error there if the meter is in an awkward position as many are. .0 -
Secure have made a big mistake IMO of not showing the actual meter reading on the Pipit 500 IHD.This means you will have to go to view their quite horrible display on the meter itself.

I must have a very special Pipit 500 on my Secure Liberty 100 meter then, as it does show the cumulative units of electricity. This is the same as the "Meter Reading".
Mine was installed by Ovo about 5 years ago.
Press Menu, History, Hour, Day, Week, Month. Cumulative is on the "Month" screen.0 -
Cumulative is handy for electric, doesn't work for Gas though if you want an actual read as it shows KW rather than M3.
The Pipit 500 is poorly designed useless crap, you can't even properly work out exact monthy / weekly / daily figures from the bar chart.0 -

Yes, I've seen that. You'd think that it would be the same as the reading from the meter itself but, in my case, it isn't - it's about 20 more than the actual meter reading.
It also shows cumulative kWh for gas but the reading on the gas meter is in m^3. You could work it out, I suppose, and it would be reasonably accurate for monthly billing purposes...0
