The problem I'm having! the head gasket on my car when, I was advised to buy a new engine as it would work out cheaper in the long run. This seemed logical at the time,! I did inform the garage that the engine for my car is complex let's say!! Due to it being eco flex. The garage quoted me £500 so I booked my car in and told it would take a few days to complete the job.! Two Months later I still don't have my car back.. Its sat there with no engine in it as the engine he got was the wrong one (I did tell him!!) after many visits to the garage and him telling me, yes it will be ready at the end of the week. To go back and still not fixed, thank goodness I didn't pay him up front like I was going to. Now I'm being told he can't get an engine they are wanting minimum £750.00 for the engine, ( they being where he gets his parts from) (like I did say before he started the job!!)! I do believe the fact that I'm a woman and he obviously didn't listen to a word I said as women know nothing about cars! Well this woman does know obviously more than he did.!! So the problem is what do I do next!! Shouting and screaming will get me nowhere,! I can't just take the car as! my engine is sat in a heap on his yard, next to my car...
If I wasn't still paying for the car I would have just scraped it

Keep calm and use paragraphs!
Make, model, age, mileage would be helpful.0 -
An engine for something relatively new and popular like a Corsa (I'm guessing) EcoFlex is never going to be cheap. So he under-estimated, and is having difficulty finding an engine that can be put in within the original quote...
Yes, he's going to need to ensure it's the right one - that's not terribly hard. Several engines have had that badge slapped on 'em over the years - what capacity, what year, what engine code?
It's compromise time all round. Obviously, you aren't going to hold him to that £500, are you? So split the it into parts and labour. If his original £500 estimate was labour and parts, then how about £250 labour plus the parts?0 -

Get them to put the old engine back and take it to somewhere who know what they are doing.0

The alternative is to accept that he made a mistake with his original estimate, possibly because he didn't listen when you told him which engine it had, and pay the extra cost of the proper engine.0 -

It's obviously going to end up costing more than the original quote, as the engine alone is considerably more.
Time to talk to the guy sensibly and come to a deal that is least painful for all concerned I'd say.0 -
Thank you for all your advice, but sorry to ask but i need more advice please about the same car and same garage.
Yes the guy still has my car.... Yes after all this time. He is about as helpful as a glass ashtray on a motorbike lol.
So the end of feb i bought an engine and had it delivered to garage, there was 30days warranty on it and when he sends my old engine to them i get 6 months warranty. (sounds good!)
So today after a long shift at work, i ask him for an update.. I had left it, thinking with all the coronavirus ect give him time.. For him to tell me 2 months after receiving the engine that theres a problem with it and he needs to contact the company i bought it from.. I know this guy is /has done me over, but what do i do next.. Help please0 -
Stop messing about and go straight to trading standards,he has obviously got no interest in fixing your car or he doesn't know what he's doing.
Get a third party involved now, I dont think you should pay him a penny as he is clearly taking you for a ride....I have been in the motor trade for over 40 years and jobs don't take this long if you know what your doing.1 -
I will do that, thank you ever so much for the advice,
I will let you know how i get on. X0
