The vendor is paying for their services for one, and two - only occasionally is it valuable to speak with the other party direct. Usually it's easier through a middle man like the EA and solicitor. Money/offers should definitely go through the EA. I hate dealing with buyers direct.

On the other hand, the seller will at least know there's a keen and serious potential buyer in the offing. It might just swing things in your favour even if there have been other offers. I agree with Sugarfree- nothing to lose by dropping off a note.0

Thanks everyone for your help and advice. I've spoken to them again and it still hasn't been passed on to the seller. I'll see if there has been any progress tomorrow and if it will drop a note on my way home from work
I have actively been avoiding this agent until now but liked the house so much I bit the bullet, not expecting to have this much hassle to even put an offer in!0 -
One agent had me in tears when off a call once when I was trying to put an offer in. Kept fobbing me off. Eventually I got an offer accepted but then had to deal with them. I only dealt with them via email after that and blocked their numbers.

Which ombudsman scheme do they belong to? For example the TPOS code of practice says (section 9) that all offers must be passed on as soon as reasonably possible, and confirmed to the seller in writing within 2 days.0 -

I agree, pop a note through the door thanking them for allowing you to view their property and that you are confirming your offer to the Estate Agent of £X. State you are a chain free buyer.0
