No banks in our high street any more -and when there were they weren't open hours working people could get to.....

Just think how would people manage like we had to do back in the 70 & 80's
Wages via Cheque to be paid into bank each week....

    Cashback @ retailers :D
    Life in the slow lane

Salaries by cheque. Wages more usually handed over in cash in a brown envelope every week then spent without being deposited anywhere unless the individual stashed a bit away in a post office or building society account.
  • But true! Responsibility is on them then.

Isn't it great that people don't have to manage like that any more because technology has advanced in the last fifty years?

Absolutely - I'm not that old (well, not state pension age yet) and can remember with horror having to waste most of my Friday lunchtime queueing in the bank with a cheque made payable to 'cash' to get enough money to go out at the weekend.

And if you ran out of cash over the weekend, then tough !
  • Go to atm

    Money doesn’t come out

    Call bank

    Get a chargeback

That would save a lot of posts on this thread jeez

Pre ATM I can remember doing crazy things like driving to Gatwick airport on a Sunday to cah a cheque with a cheque guarantee card (the airport bureaux de change were actual functioning bank branches of the major clearing banks in those days).

ATM’s recalibrate balances and withdrawals at the end of the following working day (unpaid withdrawal on a Friday may re-credit your bank by Monday at 11:59PM latest).

Every bank will take on your ATM Dispute. 15 days is the industry standard timescale, you’ll usually be notified of the outcome by letter.

Some banks refund customers out of their own pockets within 3 days whilst the investigation takes place and, if for any reason the claim is rejected, the bank will re-debit the funds.

And then if ATM operator says that their logs show that the money was dispensed (as appears to be the case here) the chargeback is rejected and the refund clawed back out of the account.......
  • Why will CASHZONE not return to me the cash they debited from my account despite their faulty machine which held back the money - literally, the notes being stuck in the rollers and out of reach.
How much interest and profit must these companies make on the 'accidents' that occur when they have a disclaimer that says they do not have to respond for a minimum 6 days??!!
Thet do not even communicate an apology or any updates and it is now over a week.
