Permitted development extension

I’m not sure how to work this or how to make a new thread so going to do it here hope anyone can help.
My parents own a semi detached house that had been extended and they would like extend abit more (to the side) and convert it into a separate dwelling.
Is this possible and has anyone ever done anythink similar?
Many thanks
You need to speak to a local architect. There are way too many variables0 -
You have 3 options,
1. Full planning application, cost £206 (plus £25 fee if you go via planning portal rip off so don't, send file in direct instead). You will need proper plans.
2. Lawful development Certificate proposed 50% of £206. Needs to be precise enough so they can determine if it would fall under permitted development.
3. Pre planning advice. AFAIR my council charges £65 for this.
Which ever way you go it will cost money. We all pay rates but that's not enough now it seems and you have to pay just to have a question answered.0
