right ive ordered a 512mb, will there be instructions what to do with it when it arrives

    thanks

if you turn your laptop over there should be a little cover with 2 screws holding it in, once removed you should see either 1 stick of 256 MB RAM or perhaps 2 sticks of 128MB, earth yourself against something metal and then remove a stick and put your new one it's place.

When you restart the laptop it should show the extra RAM as available.

sorry been with aol for years and never had a problem
have tried a few others because people advised it and always go back to aol

AOL may be your preferred ISP but that does not mean that you need their bloatware on your system, in fact you never need to install any ISP's crap on your system.

Have you done any basic housekeeping on your system like running ccleaner? here. If not give it a go.

There is another useful tool called process explorer. You can sort which processes are hogging your resources. Google these services and check if they are necessary or not.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

To earth yourself, just touch something metal before touching the assembly the RAM module goes into. Just in case you have some static in you which can damage the memory.

a quick speed up is to reduce the resolution of the display.
Right click on the desktop background.
Click properties, click settings and where you see the little slider with screen resolution you can drag it to a lower setting and click apply. This is handy if you are using anything displaying pictures, graphical games etc. You can always set it back if you dont like it.

Be careful with ccleaner. I ran that a while back, and since then explorer often comes up with some windows installer something or other window when I enter certain pages. Someone on here suggested it may be because of the ccleaner
Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o :o

There is a tick box for log files in ccleaner, and I think this can cause this problem with office. One solution I have seen for excel (apart from to stick the office CD in), is to run excel with the /s switch, and then kill the installer process in task manager.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
