I have received a second email stating that they won't be charging the fee, in addition the won't be charging for Sterling withdrawals as well.

We have the Platinum Travel Visa card which is fee free at foreign ATMs until August 2022.

The word Travel does not appear on the card which is a little confusing.

Are you saying this benefit has been withdrawn and a 2.99% charge imposed ?

Barclaycard have not advised this to my knowledge.

I've had an email about this for my Barclaycard Forward card. Not yet had anything for my Barclaycard Hilton Honors.

It says: "Due to new regulations, the cash transaction fees we charge will be the same in the UK and abroad. From 25 November 2019, we’re introducing ‘cash fees’ on non-sterling cash transactions at 2.99% (there is a minimum fee of £2.99, except on gaming transactions, where there is no minimum fee). We’ll no longer charge any ‘non-sterling transaction fees’ on cash transactions made in foreign currencies."

    Existing fees are:
    • % cash transaction fee = 2.99% (sterling) or 0% (non-sterling)
    • minimum cash transaction fee = £2.99 (sterling) or £0 (non-sterling)
    • non-sterling transaction fee = 0% (sterling) or 2.99% (non-sterling)
New fees will be 2.99%, £2.99, and 0% respectively for both sterling and non-sterling.

  • I got it for Hilton.
  • Having just checked the most recent monthly statement - ours is a Barclaycard Platinum Cashback Plus.

The successor to their Platinum Travel card ?

No fees abroad until 31st August 2023 (not 2022 as I had thought) and 0.25% cashback.

We were fortunate enough to apply a few weeks before they pulled the no foreign fees deal.
  • I have the Platinum Cashback Plus card that isn't supposed to charge any fees abroad.

I received this email aswell, and mine states:

Because you currently hold the Barclaycard Platinum Cashback Card, we’ve reduced the non-sterling transaction fees to 0%, which means that your purchases and cash withdrawals abroad will not incur any fees (interest charges will still apply). We will now also reduce the sterling cash fee and minimum fee to 0% until the end of August 2023 to match this. At the end of the promotional period your account will be charged the fees shown in the above table, in line with other Barclaycard accounts.

This email message seems to me to be one of the most unclear communications I've ever read. Some examples in plain English would have been very helpful.

I have the Platinum Travel card and this is what my email message says:

    Non-Sterling cash transaction

Because you currently hold the Barclaycard Platinum Travel Card, we’ve reduced the non-sterling transaction fees to 0%, which means that your purchases and cash withdrawals abroad will not incur any fees (interest charges will still apply). We will now also reduce the sterling cash fee and minimum fee to 0% until the end of August 2022 to match this. At the end of the promotional period your account will be charged the fees shown in the above table, in line with other Barclaycard accounts.

After reading it a few times I've concluded that nothing changes until August 2022. But I have still have that nagging doubt.

I have a bog standard Platinum Barclaycard that doesn't offer free foreign use.

Screen grab of the email I received from Barclaycard earlier today here. It contains:
Due to new regulations, the cash transaction fees we charge will be the same in the UK and abroad. From 25 November 2019, we’re introducing ‘cash fees’ on non-sterling cash transactions at 2.99% (there is a minimum fee of £2.99, except on gaming transactions, where there is no minimum fee). We’ll no longer charge any ‘non-sterling transaction fees’ on cash transactions made in foreign currencies.

Email also mentions changes for customers in persistent debt:
We’re making changes to help customers who are in persistent debt to repay their balances more quickly.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has recently brought in rules to help customers who are borrowing on credit cards for a long time and making low repayments. If they pay more in interest, fees and charges than towards paying back what they’ve borrowed for 18 months or more, we’ll let them know that they are in persistent debt so that they can take action. If they’ve been in persistent debt for at least two consecutive 18-month periods, we’ll contact them again, to help find a way to pay down their borrowing more quickly in a way that’s affordable for them.

We’re changing the terms and conditions to introduce paydown plans – repayment plans with fixed minimum payments which will allow customers to repay their balance more quickly. We’ll also be able to suspend their card if they’ve been in persistent debt for at least two consecutive 18-month periods. This is to stop their balance increasing, so that we can help them focus on paying it off.

And some fees are being dropped:
We’ll no longer charge a £12 fee for returned payments, £2 if you request a copy of a transaction or a £2 fee if you ask for a copy statement from us.
