Do Vodafone charge to the end of the minimum period?

I understand the expectation that Vodafone would charge me for service until the end of my minimum period (4 November 2019).

However I know that some networks just charge you a pro-rated amount when you leave during the last month of your minimum term (usually until the day your number ports out).

Does anyone know which way Vodafone does it?

Many thanks.

M.

  • No. You actually have to wait till the day your contract ends to end it- the amount they charge is ridiculous. My contract finishes on sunday and they wanted to charge me £75 to end it early.

If you leave before the end of your contractual period Vodafone should charge the remaining amount of your contract period less a 2% discount and also less the VAT, that equates to 81.7% of the remaining balance. So say you requested the PAC 1 month before end of contract period and ported out straightaway then on a £20 a month contact you should get charged approx £16.74.

You can find out the early termination charge that applies to your contract by texting INFO to 85075.

I'm pretty sure that's not true and all MNOs at the very least do the remaining month's worth of charges - VAT

Given that knowledge it seems a no brainer to see out the final days of the contract.

I presume what will happen is when I get and pay my next bill this will cover the period up to and beyond my minimum term.

And should I move away from Vodafone at that point they will need to refund me the portion of my bill that covers the period beyond my minimum term.

After your min term, if you switching your provider using PAC, they would not charge the notification period.

I recommend you obtain a Voxi at the end of Oct, use PAC code and switch over.

Then wait until end of Nov for black friday/ cyber monday and check if there are good deal on new phone/ SIM only tariff.

As that "knowledge" is actually nonsense you'd be better off checking your ETF direct with Vodafone before making a decision.
Your last bill may include any early termination fee (ETF) you need to pay for ending your contract early. You must pay everything you owe us.

Text INFO free to 85075 to find out how much it will be.

    How we calculate your ETF

We add together all outstanding monthly charges for the remainder of your minimum term (agreed as part of your contract), taking into account any recurring monthly discounts to which you are entitled, calculated at a daily rate

We then take off VAT at the current rate
We then take off 2% for early receipt of payment to get the final charge you owe us (this doesn't apply to business customers)
If you have any credits on your account, we'll take these off the total amount you owe

    Example

Your monthly charge is £45 a month, and you have six-and-a-half months left until the end of your minimum term. You also have a recurring monthly discount of £10. We multiply £35 (£45 - £10 discount) by six-and-a-half, totalling £227.50, and take VAT off that figure, leaving it at £189.58. Finally, we take 2% off that figure, making your final Early Termination Fee £185.79.
