Stolen catalytic converter

Been away for a couple of days and come back to find my car is making a horrendous noise, sounds like the exhaust is blowing but coming from the front. Looked underneath the car and there is a plastic cover hanging down and found a couple of screws on the floor. I have a Honda jazz 57 plate and I know there are gangs of criminals in North London who steal them. Does it sound like this? I am insured but just wondering the approx cost of fixing

The only time I had to replace a catalytic converter the official Skoda part was about £1300 according to my garage. They got a pattern part for £500.
Parts for a Jazz might (or might not) be cheaper than for an Octavia vRS.0 -

The aftermarket ones are not the same quality as an original Honda one. They restrict gas flow so you have less power and they dont last very long. If you can get an original from a breakers for a reasonable price, that might be a better choice.0

Yes, if they're lucky they may even buy their old one back.:D1 -
So sorry for you to find your car in that state, it seems as though it will be expensive.. Cat thefts are a big problem in East Surrey. One owner said the plastic tray under the Jazz is supposed to make it harder to remove, apparently not in your case. Gangs can remove cats in 3 mins (they may slide underneath) in broad daylight or at night in full view of people. Cars parked in roads, hospital, supermarket car parks are targeted. They wear fluorescent jackets so it looks like repair men or changing tyres if jacked up. Toyota have a cage to fit around the cat to deter or slow them down, might ask if it fits a Jazz which I am trying not to use until a solution can be found.0

It does seem to be a problem with the Honda Jazz. It seems that car is targeted more than other cars.0

Its happening all over my area, especially in quiet car parks. Its the latest crime sweeping the country. The Youtube video I saw the two people only took a couple of minutes using a battery powered angle grinder. I can t think of any defence to it as my car is parked on my drive. It does make a bit of a racket though.
Seem that Toyota Prius cats fetch a premium price. Old cats can be sold online and that is where I would expect they end up.0 -

That was a set-up pretending it is difficult to give viewers confidence.
They use a chain cutter, silent, faster, no sparks and it goes in a large pocket.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

My catalytic converter was also pinched from my car. I had been parked in a hospital car park and returned back to my car and turned the engine on to an almighty noisy exhaust. I limped the car home (could have done with ear defenders to protect my poor ears from the noise!) and when I finally got it to the garage I had the shock of my life when I was told the catalytic converter had been taken-I thought that I had done something daft such as snagging the exhaust pipe on a branch as I was parked in front of hedges. At the Honda dealership they told me that my car-Honda CR-V was a popular target for thefts as it has high ground clearance.
I now know not to park my Honda CR-V in quiet dimly areas and not to park it on its own which makes it easy for the thieves to have space to easily do the dirty deed!
It cost £900 to replace the converter-very painful!0
