Littlewoods really low payment

Hi I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I have just received a final settlement from Littlewoods. I had PPI on my account for 12 years between 2002 and 2014 and I would say my average balance was around £600. I never paid the balance off in full so there would always have been an amount on my account between £300 and £1200, and I can see payments going from my bank account to back this up, and a couple of emails off them showing my balance. Unfortunately I no longer have any statements.
The amount they have offered in compensation is, wait for it, £2.86. I cant understand why it is so low, but when I phoned for an explanation, they said the payments for the PPI may not have been charged.
Has anyone else experienced this? I am unsure whether to write to Littlewoods for an explanation, refer to the FOS or just accept that they are correct?
Thanks

There really is no point doing anything at all unless you can evidence that you paid more than is being refunded.
FOS cannot force the lender to refund money that was never paid.
Are you absolutely certain you had PPI for the entire twelve years? Has this been confirmed by the lender?
You can ask Littlewood's for a breakdown of your redress, but I doubt this will shed much light..0 -
Are you getting confused with the (probably) enormous amount of interest you may have paid? That isn't the same as PPI, which was intended as a payment protection plan for those eligible to claim on it.
The fact that you have been refunded such a tiny amount could be because you spotted the extra payment and cancelled the policy straight away.0 -
Hi,
Littlewoods have said that the PPI was added to the account in 2002 and taken off in 2014. They even say you were no longer covered by the insurance after that date. I can prove that the closing balance was over 1k, which I have since paid off. The person on the phone said sometimes they didn’t charge the PPI which doesn’t make any sense?
I think the best thing is probably to do a SARS request.0 -

Why not just ask them to simply explain in detail how they came to the redress total?
I assure you it will be something basic like there only being PPI in the early stages before being cancelled (perhaps after a free period?)
Don't expect a sudden discovery of hundreds of pounds you paid...0 -
But it wasn’t cancelled that’s my kind point. They’ve said that themselves. It was active for 12 years. During that time I paid and owed them thousands of pounds. I’ll wrote to them
And ask for a further explanation.0 -

You didn't perhaps default on this account, did you?I would say my average balance was around £600.I never paid the balance off in full so there would always have been an amount on my account between £300 and £1200Unfortunately I no longer have any statements.
You do realise that you won't be getting a refund of the massive amounts of interest you will have paid even if what you say here is accurate?
You'll only ever be refunded any PPI you paid.
Littlewoods' records show you paid a pittance and only the added 8% interest will have bumped it up to £2.86.0 -
I’ve just heard back from Shop Direct too. And I’m not happy.
I had a catalogue with them & they’ve agreed that PPI was paid on it from 1993 to 2010. In 2010 I contacted them to reclaim PPI, they said it wasn’t due and they refused my claim. So I paid off the catalogue and closed the account in disgust.
Then last year they wrote to say they had reviewed my claim after ombudsman’s advice on a similar account and I may be due money back after all. They’ve now come back and offered me £59. I cannot see how I can only be due £59 for 17 years of PPI (1993 to 2010) & £80 interest on what could be up to 26 years (1993 to 2019). That makes no sense to me. If I want to complain I can go to the Ombudsman. But now I don’t have any papers. I would have had papers in 2010 when I complained originally, but not now. I’m raging.0 -
Why are you 'raging'?
Duration of account doesn't determine the amount of PPI you paid.0 -
As above. My dad ‘had’ PPI on his credit card account for ages, had an upheld complaint and received exactly £0.00 back because he paid his bill in full whoever he used the card (not often).helpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -

Because I genuinely believe it’s not as low as that. When we first opened the account it was to help us buy necessities for our house. We had nothing and needed basics. After that I used the catalogue a lot. I hate shopping. And I didn’t pay off the bill every month I only paid it off completely in 2010 when they refused my original claim.
I am absolutely positive I paid more PPI over those 17 years than £59, £3.50 a year?! I don’t think so. In 2010 I may have been able to prove it, now I can’t. That is why I’m raging. And I’m sure there will be more people in the same situation.0
