Not according to BT themselves as the link and quote above state. I'll give you that it does seem a bit pessimistic but then given the OP's statement you can't rule out that the lady wouldn't start it playing and leave it to its own devices (so to speak :) )

Does an Alexa device have a automatic sleep mode?

In that link BT are saying you can all of those things plus they are going to be on the cautious side so they can sell higher packages. I know for a fact that streaming audio will use about 40MB of data per hour as a rough guide so 15 days continuous streaming is a realistic amount with a 15GB allowance.

Alexa will stop streaming after 1 hour unless you tell it otherwise so it won't stay on forever.

I'm not sure why we are taking advise from BT about how much data Alexa uses?

    They seam unrelated

Ahh, that was what I was wondering about.

Someone recommended the BT Basics package for use with it.

Thank you all the replies so far. My client uses Alexa mostly for setting herself reminders such as remembering to lock doors at night, and also for daily appointments she has. She also uses Alexa to help her with spellings and word definitions as this is something she struggles with.

How is Alexa connecting in her home if she hasn't got the internet already?

A dongle, mentioned in the very first post. It will be part of the deal with the university.

There's no evidence that the lady wants to listen to music. But if others are following this thread the best way to use Alexa to listen to music if you are on a limited data plan is to plug a good old-fashioned transistor radio into a smart switch. You then instruct Alexa to turn on/off the smart switch.

Well there is the answer! Keep or get another dongle.
  • For radio Alexa does not stop streaming after 1 hour - it goes on until you tell her to turn off. I have A play radio all night.

I'm clueless when it comes to technology but the lady said that the university people who set it all up have said that in order to use a dongle it would have to be connected to a computer initially, I don't know if this is to synchs it with Alexa as I'm clueless, but it apparently would not be straightforward to top up the data allowance as and when the lady needs it.
