Refused refund for daughter's birthday party

Hi all.

I recently paid to hire a BBQ in the woods for my daughter's upcoming 2nd birthday. It's in a lovely clearing with many activities for young children to do. Unfortunately the weather forecast is for torrential rain. I have emailed them to ask for my money back (£45) as it's unfair of me to expect children aged 1 and 2 to endure that sort of weather. They said they do not give refunds for cancellations. Can they do this? I'm not sure where I stand.

Many thanks

    What do their T&C's say?
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Just checked. "No refunds for cancellations". That's all. So is that it then? It seems so unreasonable.

Its not their fault that the weather will be bad or that you chose that sort of event for a 2 year old. As long as they are happy to turn up on the rain and complete the service you have paid them for then you won't be entitled to a refund. If however they can't complete the service because the weather is so bad then you should be refunded for it.

If the party is weather dependant why did you opt for outside without make provisions for rain?

Can you hire or borrow a marquee and have fun in the rain?

It's at an activity centre which is aimed at children aged 18 months and up, but I don't dispute that it isn't their fault that the weather will be bad. They've actually now just asked me to change the date due to the expected weather so it doesn't look like they'll be completing the service at all.

That was my initial thought, but it's not allowed. That's in the Ts&Cs too.

Will they let you switch to a different date? I realise that it's not ideal, but better than nothing.

Yes, they will. They've actually asked me to. I'm going to speak to those who are due to come and see how they feel about doing it on a different date and if they're able to. Thank you.
