i had a similar problem with a Motorola smartphone earlier this year, so it would appear it could be a problem with this brand.- Motorolo . Luckily it was a family members phone previously and it still worked for them. They somehow changed the IP number and it is now working for me. What harm could a factory reset do for the OP as this could be a possible solution but I am sure there are subscribers with a lot more knowledge than me than could explain the advantages and disadvantages.0

The Ops original post states he has no SIM card in his phone. i do not have one in my phone either . Is this the problem, and the solution would be to go out a buy one, or should the internet connect to the phone without a SIM card. Also i would be interested to know re post 12 whether a factory reset is a good option or would that create more problems. I have tried putting phone into safe mode but this has made no difference. Thank you0

I am not sure it buying a sim card would solve the problem and that could be a waste of money unless it is definitely the answer.
You can order a PAYG SIM for FREE from any of the mobile operators.
Have you restarted the router yet?0 -
The presence (or lack of) a SIM card shouldn't make any difference whatsoever to Wifi connectivity. Data yes (but that should obviously go without saying
) but I set up a replacement Android phone for a relative last year without any Sim in it and it worked absolutely fine, got the Android updates and everything.
It was an Xmas present so I did all the setup two weeks prior. It didn't see a SIM card until about three days after Christmas as I had to order a new one because the new phone only took nano and the old one was a fixed standard size.0 -
OP do you by any chance know a family member (or a neighbour you trust) who could possibly help you to get it sorted ?0

I solved the problem some days ago by putting the smartphone back to factory settings and also I reset my Virgin Media hub. I can now connect to the internet at home on my smartphone. Thank you everybody for your helpful input.0
