Con - Warning

We feel stupid - we fell for a con, yesterday afternoon - a chap (purporting to be Eastern European - from the little words that he spoke) - came to the door and gave my wife a card, telling her that he was selling pencil drawings of various things - at £15 each
He was "unable to speak more than grunt a few words" - he was supposedly deaf !
He came into our living room and gave me a folder of his "artwork"
He dragged a finger across the very bottom of one - which "proved" that they were pencil - we agreed on a cat one - this was paid for- we shook hands and he left
The moment he left - I had a thought and googled "doorstep scam" fake drawings" which, of course gave me the truth
THEY ARE PHOTOCOPIES - with a pencil line at the bottom !
This may only have been £15 but it is a matter of principle - we were CONNED !
Neither of us could describe him - his clothes or anything else about him

Jeez!
I don't entertain cold callers at all - whether they contact me by email, phone or knock on my door.
What were you thinking to let him into your home? :eek:0 -
we have a sign similar to one of these

anyone that ignores sign gets told "I don't buy at the door" and pointed to sign (and certainly would not invite them into my home!)0 -

Nice........
Love the line 'No Religious Bodies'

Try looking at it this way. It was only £15. It proved that you and your wife are nice people. You won't fall for the next one which could be £100 or even more! (He did play the sympathy card really well though)0

We used to get God botherers near enough every month, not had 'em once since the sign went up.0 -
I would say you got off lightly with £15 after letting a random door knocker into your home.
Honestly, what were you thinking?0 -

I invite them in! They love it when I get my copy of the Satanic Bible out! I absolutely destroy their fairy tales bit by bit with science reasoning and fact! The Jovo that sits on the mobility scooter outside the co op looks the other way when I approach now. Happy days.0 -

I'd be worried that he was casing the joint. Hope you don't have the family silver on display.
