There have been various attempts over the years, from VdP badge-engineering in the days of BL through to the Aston Cygnet...
FTFY
Ha ha ha the badge is a bit of a mouthful, but it only matters in an Alan Partridge "what are we driving these days" kind of situation.
The Aston Cygnet was to do with fiddling cross-range emissions limits, but they're now a modern classic and very pricey.
Fiesta Vignale is the modern equivalent of a Metro VdP, but it's not a luxury car, it's a boggo standard car with a ton of luxury kit bolted on, as is the Tivoli Ultimate, but you get a load more SsY than Ford for your money, and a much longer warranty.0 -

For a good quality SUV at that price point I can't think of much else other than an VW Tiguan R-Line0

..I am also looking for a "small" SUV for a similar price. I currently have a Yeti 1.4 Petrol which is a cracking car, but I just don't need 4 wheel drive. (Originally purchased to tow a larger caravan, but we gave up on the idea not long after I got the car!)...
The Yeti is a great car, and practical, (all the rear seats come out in about 5 mins), and you may want to consider the 1.2 petrol version if you are diesel averse, (a car I am considering), and these should be well below your budget for a late, high spec low mileage car.
I am also looking at a 1.0 ltr T-Roc, (a bit basic inside), or a Q2 (still a bit new so pricey). The new Volvo XC40 looks really nice, but again to new so expensive. I would not touch anything French as in general their reliability is below average.....decisions / decisions!0 -
Tbh,I've bought a few times at auction and never had a problem.
I've generally gone for company cars approaching their first MOTs which usually have been serviced and the mileage is not too bad.
In our case we won't be doing a huge amount of mileage but would like some comfort.
Not really interested in high performance, high insurance.
Thanks for the suggestion so far, keep them coming.

Unless you really NEED an S-, a considerably newer E- or even C-class has to be better value, surely?0 -
If you're going all S Class, then how about a VW Phaeton and 5 grand in your pocket?0
