Any help for replacement oil boiler on benefits?

150 Posts

Our 14 yer old oil boiler has finally died and needs replacing. But, it's going to cost around £5K and we receive Guaranteed pension credit and can't afford this. No mains gas where we live.
I was hoping we could get help from the governments ECO scheme but from what I've read, this only covers gas boilers, plus our electricity supplier isn't part of the scheme. I've also checked on the Simple Energy Advice site, and there's nothing local available that I can find.
I'd even consider converting to Calor gas if that would mean we'd get help with the boiler but not sure that would be the case. Can anyone please advise as I really don't know where to turn to for help.

Found this for England:

This was the first search result I went on, filled in their questionnaire and it said we're not eligible, but didn't say why. Further reading elsewhere said that it's because we have oil heating, not gas.
We're in England
Have a look at this one.
I will dig for a bit longer and see what she I can find for you.
Might be worth just going through all the things on Google unless some member are able to assist.
Fingers crossed for you.
Engineers vary greatly in what they are able to fix, what they want to fix, and what spare parts they are able to source.
Might it be worth getting a 2nd (or 3rd!) opinion?
If you know what is wong with it, you could even ring round and say "I have a 14 year old xxxx boiler and the yyyy has failed. Can you replace that part/fix it and what's a ballpark cost?"
Indeed. It may be the case the OP uses someone like British Gas who will only supply original parts where an independent would be able to use third party parts.
Target: Mortgage free by 58.
I agree.........
Some people have a vested interest in telling you things are un fixable I am afraid.
