Wheel Alignment discrepancies between two garages

  • Facade Thanks for your reply. though I dnt understand technical terms in use here. I believe people at garages are experts and there to provide the best advice.
How can I make it right this time. who should I believe KF or this independant garage?
I fitted Continental Premium tyres about 6/7 months ago and since the wear tear started, the Left tyre outside is nearly bald, while all other tyres have full uniform threads.

The outside of the left front has worn rapidly...?
Do you live somewhere with lots of roundabouts, by any chance...?

As for "who to believe", try "the print-outs from the alignment machine".
  • Yes Adrian. only on Left tyre outside worn quickly. but all other tyres seems fine. yes I do live in area with number of roundabouts!

There's your cause, then... Not alignment. Just too many roundabouts, quite possibly a bit too enthusiastically!

A Qashqow is a tall, top-heavy, fairly tubby (~1.5t) barge of a thing. When you go round a roundabout, most of that load is put onto the outside of that front-left tyre. The inevitable happens.

If front toe was the issue, you'd wear both fronts evenly.
  • I had the same problem with a rear left wheel. Too much enthusiasm on a couple of motorway interchanges curving round to the right on a daily basis.

Are you going to recommend people track their wheels themselves then?

I have only ever asked a garage to do my wheel alignment once. It made no difference that I could notice but the top of the steering wheel was at the 3 O'clock position instead of 12 O'clock and they wouldn't/couldn't sort it out. They seemed pretty clueless. My last car went 17 years without it being touched and my current one is 15 years old and it's never been touched. If I had a problem I would look into it again but as I haven't I won't bother.

So to clarify, you've had a car 17 years and not got the steering tracked?

Penny wise, pound foolish springs to mind.....

So as usual, offering an extreme view and no actual usable advice for the O/P. Why do you bother posting, other than to belittle people and feel smug?

Yes it was fine. Both wheels turned when you turned the wheel. Tyre wear was even. Why mess with something that's working well? If there was a problem I might try and find someone that knew what they were doing by researching the internet but I'd rather not have someone mess about with something that's working great.
