LED batten light to replace fluorescent strip light?

We want to replace the strip light in the kitchen (fluorescent tube) with one of these. Anyone know if they’re any good? Are they bright enough, do they distribute the light well or are they more of a directional light ie make the walls appear dark?

Thanks.

  • Or just replace the existing gas tube with an LED tube

if existing fitting has a non electronic ballast its as simple as just plugging new tube in and swapping the starter unit for the one supplied with tube

The light seems better and doesn't dim with age , is more immediate at switch on, and none of that flicker etc as the tubes age

I didn’t know I could do that. Thanks for the advice.

    LAP are rubbish.

After less than 12 months my LAP outdoor security light has just gone back to Screwfix. The whole unit was full of water.

They do look a bit tacky I must admit.

  • If replacing a 60w fluorescent an equivalent led would be about 30w. The light linked to is cool white which will be much whiter than the old light making it feel even brighter.
Led's are more directional than fluorescent tubes but they are not like spotlights with a narrow beam.

Why do you want to replace it?

If the existing fittings is ok but the tube is 5+ years old and its getting dull then it may just need a new tube. Fluorescents light output drops as they age, so they go dull long before they finally fail.
