Avoiding Recurrent Payment with Creditcard

So you would be happy to spend time applying for a pre paid card and topping it up. But call a insurance company to cancel....
Might even find that some ins co will not take a prepay card.Life in the slow lane0 -
Hi Guys thanks for the advice.
I just checked my credit indeed they have taken money from my credit card while I already arranged another insurance.
But I manage to cnacel it as it is still within the cooling off period.
In the future what is the best practice to prevent this cheeky way to take to stop this CPA for subscrotiopn base payment without the need to be busy to call them again?
What about paying by Prepaid card or the like ?
It's not really "cheeky" given that if you read the Ts&Cs it explains what they'll be doing, and then before they do it they'll send you a renewal quote.
The way to avoid it in future is:
1) Actually read the paperwork
2) When they send you a renewal quotation, contact them and say you're not interested.0 -
In my experience, when I first take out an insurance policy with a new company, simply telling them at the time that you don't want it to auto-renew is sufficient.0

Pay for insurance on prepay card.
1 year later card has expired.
Insurance auto-renews.
Payment doesn't go through as payment card no longer active.
Insurance cancelled for failure to pay.
Have to declare cancelled insurance for several years forwards.

You really are making a bit of meal out of this. You either tell them you don't want CPA from the start, or you make a brief phone call at some point to cancel it. Faffing around with prepaid cards seems to be a bit of an over reaction. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Well, my insurance in the past was not auto renewed I did not need to call them and it was automatically canceled simply because I ignored them no payment taken from my CC. That should be the default or if they want to renew they should alert you in writing or at least by email. I wonder how many people here are using the same insurance they used it last year ?
The reason it started, was people complained because their insurance was NOT renewed and they either got caught for driving with no insurance, or had a accident and ended up out of pocket.
When you get your renewal notice. It will say either...
You do not need to do anything further if you are happy to renew. Or you need to contact us to renew.
It is clear what action you need to take.
CPA, Seem to have about a 50/50 split on like/dislike.
And YES I do sometimes renew with the same company as their renewal is so close to the cheapest I can find it's not worth the trouble of moving.Life in the slow lane0 -
Hi,
As others have said you will need to contact the insurance company and your bank to cancel the CPA, this will mean that they won't take any payments from you. When you next purchase insurance you can uncheck the recurring payment authority or contact them as soon as you have purchased so you don't have to remember when it comes to renewal.

This time last year I had payment taken from my credit card for software update originally set up some time ago. Contacted the company Cleveridge to cancel, supposedly done.
Yesterday they have taken payment again despite my changing my card details a month ago. Contacted them and not getting help. Contacted credit card company to cancel payment and ensure future block.
Asked about repayment they have directed me to Ckeveridge and if I don’t get repayment then go back to credit card company and place this in dispute. I’m worried sick about this. I’m a pensioner and can’t afford money going out and confused on system.
Any help please. Thank you.0 -

You should get your money back from the bank at some point, but it may need the dispute to do it. If that fails, you need to make a complaint to the FCA. Hopefully it won't come to that. How did you cancel the CPA, phone or email? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

You can cancel a CPA by contacting your credit card provider and informing them that you wish to do so immediately. The provider is obligated to cancel the CPA that day and must repay any money taken after the date of notification. You can also cancel with the merchant.
For some reason banks will refuse to fulfil their obligations and repeatedly demand you cancel with the merchant before they will stop the cpa. They are wrong and if necessary complain asap.0
