Before running around pabic pannic checking credit reports, placing cifas protective registrations etc how bout calling Aqua to see if they can shed some light on what has happened?
There is no reason to believe that this is the result of the letter theft incident. Simply stealing a letter would not give anybody all the details required to obtain a credit card Also, as in the other very similar recent thread, the fraudsters have not been very good at their fraud as you have received the card, not them. Their theft or interception plans were not very good.0 -
Thanks Ben. Will call Aqua first and find out more.0

Update!!!
1) I called aqua and cancelled the card. The email address and phone on their record are wrong.
2) I checked all three credit files. Right after the letter theft, there were 4 searches at the end of may and june at a site called totallymoney.com. I can see they couldn't get my first name right. DoB was correct though! How come! Also, they couldn't get the length I have stayed in the current place right.
3) Four more searches at the end of September from newday (aqua). This time they got my first name correct. They still couldn't get it right on how long I have stayed at current place.
So, what should i do now? SHould I try the cifas protective registration?0 -
How about other questions such as Employer, salary, job title, time in employment, current account bank details, length of time account held etc?
Did they get this info right?
Was all this info contained in the stolen letter?0 -
They were probably hoping to intercept the letters from Aqua and therefore run the account without you having any knowledge of it existing, but of course this didn't happen and now you are in control.
Whatever the situation is with letter theft in your building, ensure that any communal postbox is kept locked (contact the landlord if this isn't the case) and that there is a sign advising postmen to not leave letters on the floor. An alternative is to have your mail redirected to your Post Office and you collect them regularly.
As the application for credit and credit account was generated by fraud, you are entitled to have the application footprint removed from your search record and the account removed from your file. Aqua are legally required to retain your records for 6 years, but it does not need to be retained by the CRAs under this circumstance, as it could negatively effect you which would be unfair.Advice provided from this account does not consist of any professional knowledge. Thank TGC. I need to ask Aqua to do this for me right?
The letter theft was found out by the camera set up by the managing company, and police has been involved. Someone had a key can open all the letter boxes. But I don't think police is gonna do much. They asked me to provide a statemen, which I did. The case will just be like that (I suspect police cant do much and won't do much).0 -
Yes ask Aqua to remove it0
