Another Vote for Caterham, I'll raise you a defender (oops said reliable).0 -
Drive my DDs Micra the other day and was impressed with the drive. Decent affordable car, 2015 petrol and she paid under £4k a year ago.0

Unfortunately anything less than 10 years old is likely to be 'more complicated' and anything older is going to be getting 'long in the tooth' with more required to maintain and keep on the road.0

Honda Civic or jazz if you are getting on a bit.0

A metal cube with wheels and an engine!0 -
It's too small a sample to generalise from, but my 2011 Ford seems pretty reliable. Other than physical damage from potholes and a wing mirror clash, the only issues have been brake discs and pads, a new battery and an intermittent gremlin that means I have to hold the switch to fully open/close the drivers door window.0

Fiat Panda.
Really cheap to buy and run and super reliable.
Don't be fooled by all that "Fix It Again Tomorrow" nonsense of the 70's.

Steer clear of the 0.9 Twinair engine and Dualogic gearbox and get the 1.2 FIRE Petrol engine with manual gearbox from 2012 onwards.
There's nothing really to choose from in the trim range, they all lack the complicated kit most modern cars have.0 -
I think you are really looking for a Morris Minor....Je suis sabot...0
