USB Ports

Options
Since my upgrade from W7 to W10 I have had an intermittent problem.
My keyboard fails to be active perhaps on 1 in 10 boot ups. Restarting does the trick, but I'd like to sort it out.
I googled the problem and answers came back stating that you needed to untick the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the power manage tab on USB controllers in Device Manager.
I have done that in all 3 USB Root Hub controllers but it hasn't helped. There are 3 more Generic USB Hub controllers but I don't believe they are on the motherboard.
Can anyone help. BTW, I've connected the keyboard to 3 different USB ports of the MB.

Is this a wired keyboard or a wireless keyboard/mouse set?

If its a wired keyboard, just buy a new one, for about £5 they're not worth faffing around with. If the USB port itself was faulty the problem would fix itself when you swapped it round; it hasn't so suspect the keyboard.
  • I’m not near a pc at the moment but have you looked HID/mouse in device manager?

I'm confused. Can you explain please.
  • HID = Human Interface Devices. Your keyboard should be listed under that heading in Device Manager.

Yes it is there. Although not shown as a Keyboard but device Port_#0003.Hub_#0005. When removed the HID category disappeared from Device Manager which I assumed meant no devices existed now and it must have been the Keyboard.
I then unclicked the power saving box like I had on USB ports, but. When I rebooted the keyboard didn't work but did in subsequent boot ups.
I assume then that the keyboard must be faulty, though it never happened with W7.
    Thanks for all the help.

usb is very bios dependent. if everything else fails, look for a bios update.

No it isn't, because by the time you're into Windows we're well past the point of what the BIOS wants... 20 or 25 years ago maybe but not today.

Don't remove it , update the settings whilst connected

I removed it to prove that it was the device in HID. What do you mean update the settings?

The power settings in device manager for the mouse/keyboard
Edit: of course it may be a fault in the transmitter
